Chapter 61 - SDOPM: Chapter 61

"This… this is impossible! No one should be able to keep up with my speed! How did you do that?!"

Sonic stared incredulously at Kaito Ren, his eyes wide with disbelief and a touch of panic. Why had this seemingly weak opponent so easily countered his most prized technique?

Kaito Ren's fist answered him. Sonic, flustered and disoriented, was too slow to dodge and took the blow full force.

The immense power tore through Sonic's defenses, landing squarely on his chest. He groaned, a taste of blood rising in his throat.

Even in defeat, he remained mystified, unable to understand how Kaito Ren had tracked him. Was this the power of a Reserve Hero School top student?

Such a formidable individual was merely a B-class hero in the Hero Association? How strong was the Hero Association?

He then lost consciousness.

Huh?!

Kaito Ren, looking down at the unconscious Sonic, suddenly remembered he hadn't explained.

But given Sonic's intelligence, he'd probably figure out the footprints on the sand had given him away.

Kaito Ren shrugged, got up, and went to look for another monster.

Within half an hour, he found a suitable target a clam monster. Before it could even introduce itself, Kaito Ren delivered a swift, decisive blow.

[Ding… Congratulations, host! You successfully defeated a Wolf-level clam monster. You gained Strength Enhancement Agent +20.]

[Ding… You gained Constitution Enhancement Agent +20.]

[Ding… You gained Speed Enhancement Agent +20.]

[Ding… You gained a Treasure Chest Key +1.]

Another treasure chest key?!

Kaito Ren frowned at the rusty key in his inventory. Were treasure chests really everywhere on the seabed? Why did every monster drop one?

To confirm his suspicions, he continued hunting sea monsters. Several more sea creatures dropped identical treasure chest keys. He now had five. Could the chests contain something valuable?

He started looking for chests and found three, all looking quite old.

He cautiously used a key to open the first chest. His heart pounded with anticipation, imagining the treasures within perhaps priceless jewels or other valuable items.

But he was quickly disappointed.

[Ding… You opened an old treasure chest. It was empty.]

Damn it!

Kaito Ren swore. A pointless, mysterious empty chest!

Grumbling, he moved to the second chest, only to find it equally empty.

Exasperated, he went to the last chest.

[Ding… You opened an old treasure chest and unexpectedly found a treasure map!]

[Incomplete Treasure Map 6/1]

[This is a mysterious treasure map, divided into six parts, currently scattered. Collect all six to complete the map.]

Great! Essentially useless. The only reward was an incomplete map; he needed five more pieces. This was like searching for a needle in a haystack!

Kaito Ren rolled his eyes, throwing the remaining keys and map into his bag and heading back to the dorm. However, seeing his improved stats, his mood lifted.

Character Sheet:

Name: Kaito Ren

Age: 20

Strength: 580 (Normal human max: 10)

Constitution: 576 (Normal human max: 10)

Speed: 582 (Normal human max: 10)

Fighting Skills: Basic Martial Arts, Observation Eye, Eagle Eye, Intimidation

Weapon: Hunter Gauntlets (Green)

Overall Strength: Wolf-level Upper

He was confident he could now easily defeat the boar and bear monsters without Little Black. Wolf-level Middle and Upper were vastly different.

His next goal was Wolf-level Peak, then Tiger, Demon, and Dragon levels, and quickly! The thought of the numerous Demon and Dragon-level monsters in three years filled him with apprehension.

His joy at reaching Wolf-level Upper was somewhat diminished by this realization.

Kaito Ren returned to the dorm, heavy-hearted.

"Teacher, where were you?! An instructor was looking for you."

Saitama greeted him.

"Hmm? Why?"

Kaito Ren was puzzled.

"I don't know. The instructor didn't say, only that you should go see them when you get back. It seems urgent."

Saitama shrugged. The instructor hadn't provided details, only the message to convey.

"Urgent?"

Kaito Ren was completely baffled. Why would an instructor need him urgently?

He went to the instructor's office, but found it empty. He knocked, but there was no response. Shrugging, he turned to leave, planning to check back tomorrow.

But he was stopped.

"Kaito Ren? Come in."

Kawana's voice called from the doorway.

Kaito Ren, without hesitation, entered the office.

"Instructor Kawana…"

He started to greet her, but then froze. Kawana, in a loose bathrobe, emerged from the bathroom, drying her wet hair with a towel. Worse, she seemed unaware that her robe was open, revealing a generous view.

As Kaito Ren struggled to avert his gaze, a flying kick came his way.
