Chapter 53 - SDOPM: Chapter 53

Kaito Ren looked away, turning to Mosquito Girl.

"Ah?! Oh."

Mosquito Girl finally registered her current state. Previously, as a half-human, half-monster, she'd been despondent and hadn't paid much attention to her appearance.

Now, having regained her human form, she understood the need for modesty.

She quickly changed into some clothes.

"Thank you again. Without you, I wouldn't have had another chance to become human again."

She bowed deeply to Kaito Ren. However, his shirt was rather large, creating an awkward situation. Kaito Ren coughed to mask his discomfort.

"It was nothing. I was just passing by. I should get going."

He turned and quickly left, fearing he might do something inappropriate if he stayed any longer with such an attractive woman.

Mosquito Girl wanted to call him back but it was too late. She watched him go, memorizing his appearance, intending to repay his kindness later. She then determined her direction and headed home, worried about her parents after being away for several days.

Back in the city, Kaito Ren felt his arousal subside.

Whew…

Mosquito Girl had been quite intense. What if he encountered Psykos…?

The thought of the Monster Association's Psykos reignited his arousal. Tonight was going to be difficult.

Kaito Ren chuckled wryly and headed towards the dorm. He was stopped by two figures.

"Hmm? You two?"

It was the bespectacled man and Yamazaru, the Hero Association members who had delivered Hellish Blizzard's hero certification, still only C-class heroes.

"If I'm not mistaken, you're Hellish Blizzard's roommate?"

Kaito Ren studied them as they studied him.

"Yes, I am."

Kaito Ren nodded. There was no need to deny sharing a dorm with a beautiful woman.

"Then please help us deliver this to Hellish Blizzard!"

The bespectacled man produced the Hero Association appointment letter, hoping Kaito Ren would deliver it; the mission didn't explicitly forbid it.

"Not interested."

Kaito Ren shrugged. He and Hellish Blizzard had a contentious relationship; delivering the letter would likely result in a verbal assault.

"How about 1000 yen? Just deliver this, and the money is yours!"

The bespectacled man, after some hesitation, produced 1000 yen—nearly a third of his monthly income. More would leave him with nothing for the month. He considered 1000 yen a generous offer; many people earned only around 2000 yen a week.

This was easy money. He'd also investigated; Kaito Ren had joined the Reserve Hero Association for the free food and lodging, implying he was financially strapped. 1000 yen should be tempting.

But just as he felt confident, Kaito Ren ignored them and walked past.

"Kid, 1000 yen is a generous offer. Either accept it and deliver the letter, or…"

Yamazaru cracked his knuckles, a sinister smile spreading across his face.

"You're threatening me?"

Kaito Ren stopped and turned.

"I…"

Yamazaru felt a chill run down his spine, breaking into a cold sweat. He felt immense pressure from Kaito Ren, similar to facing terrifying monsters, making it difficult to breathe. He felt that saying another word would have dire consequences.

"I'm not good at delivering messages. Find someone else."

Kaito Ren shrugged, looked away, and left.

Only after Kaito Ren was far away did Yamazaru recover, gasping for breath.

"Hey, what's wrong with you?! We agreed: one good cop, one bad cop, to get him to comply! Why didn't you act?"

The bespectacled man was unhappy with Yamazaru's deviation from their plan.

"I…"

Yamazaru stammered, the image of Kaito Ren's intense gaze flashing in his mind, causing another shiver.

"Let's find someone else. That guy was too dangerous."

"Hmm?!"

The bespectacled man was surprised by Yamazaru's sudden change of heart, but no matter how much he pressed, Yamazaru refused to explain. They changed their target.

"Huh?"

Kaito Ren, at the dorm entrance, saw the blood-stained Zombieman approaching.

"Hmm? You look like you've been in a fight."

Kaito Ren said teasingly.

"Yes, I followed you to the forest and encountered a monster."

Zombieman readily admitted.

"Followed me?"

Kaito Ren was taken aback. People were incredibly bold these days!

"I was in the forest hours ago. How did you…"

Kaito Ren stopped mid-sentence. Others couldn't have done this; they would have either defeated or been defeated by the monster within that timeframe.

But Zombieman, with his almost supernatural regenerative abilities and seemingly limitless stamina, was different. He was known for wearing down monsters in battles lasting dozens of hours. A few hours was insignificant to him.

"That monster was tough. It took a while to kill it, then I came back."

Zombieman shrugged, confirming Kaito Ren's suspicions.

Kaito Ren was speechless. Such a fighting style was truly bizarre. He also felt sorry for the monster Zombieman encountered—far stronger, yet unable to defeat someone who could repeatedly resurrect.

"I came here to give you something."
