Chapter 14 - The Blade Beneath

Chapter 14: The Blade Beneath

Elaris pulsed like a living thing—charming by day, treacherous by night.

But below the glittering skyline and masked civility, something ancient stirred.

The Blood Blade, forged before the pact, sealed in shadow by witches long dead… was waking.

Dreams of Fire

Elara's dreams had grown violent.

Each night, she saw a figure cloaked in red smoke, wielding a blade carved from her own scream. A blade that sang to her. Called to her.

"Break the seal," it whispered. "You are not theirs."

When she woke, blood dripped from her nose and the glass in her window was fractured.

She hadn't touched it.

A Warning from Lucien

Lucien appeared the next evening, uninvited but welcome. Dressed in gray velvet, eyes soft but stormy.

"Elara," he said quietly, "something dark is rising beneath this city. You're not safe here."

She laughed bitterly. "I'm not safe anywhere."

"You don't understand. The Blade… it's not a weapon. It's a key."

"To what?"

Lucien hesitated. "To who you really are."

Kael's Descent

Outside the walls, Kael broke into the lower ruins—half-mad with worry, scenting blood and burning ash.

He saw signs: sigils painted in old witchtongue, talismans cracked open, and… feathers.

Not wolf. Not witch.

Crow.

The Crows of Norelyn—a rogue faction long thought extinct. Mercenaries. Blood traders. Sorcerers with no code.

And they were nesting beneath Elaris.

The Court Moves

The Council of Veil convened in secret. The Hunter King had vanished again, and the city's enchantments were failing.

"Elara Voss cannot be allowed to awaken the Blade," a masked elder growled.

"But we need her," another snapped. "She is the fulcrum."

"Then control her," the first hissed. "Or kill her before it's too late."

The Bloodblade Awakens

Elara followed her dream. Down past spell-marked tunnels. Past rusted metal doors humming with residual power.

She reached the final chamber.

The blade floated above a pool of molten glass, bathed in crimson light. Its hilt was bone. Its edge: pure void.

It recognized her.

And when her hand touched it… everything screamed.
