Nerine blinked at him, still reeling from his last cryptic remark. "Why you wanted me here."
Her pulse fluttered like a trapped bird. She opened her mouth to ask again, but Kael simply leaned back in his chair, his smirk tugging at her patience.
Instead of answering, he waved his hand dismissively toward the table.
"Eat. Then get ready—we're going somewhere."
Her fork paused halfway to her lips. "Somewhere? Where—"
He shot her a look that cut her question off neatly. Nerine puffed her cheeks in frustration, then shoveled pancake into her mouth instead. If he thought she would beg for answers, he was mistaken.
"Mmphh," she muttered around a stuffed bite, nodding to show she understood.
Kael exhaled through his nose, an expression of sheer resignation slipping over his perfect, otherworldly features. She ate like a starved fox pup, cheeks puffed and hands sticky with syrup, and yet… he could not look away. Perhaps he was cursed.
