Chapter 4 - CHAPTER 4

Lira's heart pounded in her chest as she waited for Felix's response. She had been wanting to tell him how she felt for so long, but now that the moment had finally arrived, she was terrified.

"What about us, Lira?" Felix repeated, his voice calm and measured.

Lira took another deep breath and stepped closer to Felix's desk. "I was wondering...how you feel about me," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Felix's expression remained serious, his eyes locked on Lira's. "Lira, you're like a daughter to me," he said, his voice firm but gentle. "I'm your guardian, and it's my duty to protect and care for you."

Lira's heart sank, but she tried to keep her composure. She knew Felix was just trying to do what was right, but a part of her had hoped he might feel the same way.

"I know, Felix," she said, trying to sound calm. "I just...I wanted to be honest with you."

Felix nodded, his expression softening slightly. "I appreciate that, Lira. You're a wonderful young woman, and I'm grateful to have you in my life."

Lira nodded, feeling a mix of emotions. She knew she had to respect Felix's boundaries, even if it meant her feelings wouldn't be reciprocated.

"Thanks, Felix," she said, turning to leave. "I'll...I'll go get ready for dinner."

As she walked out of the study, Felix watched her go, a small smile playing on his lips. He couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and admiration for Lira's bravery. And as he looked away, the smile grew wider, revealing a warmth in his eyes that he had been trying to suppress for a long time.
