Chapter 6: The Kiss That Didn't Lie

 The Charity Gala

The city's most glamorous event of the season had arrived: The Starlight Gala, a charity night held at a luxury glass dome atop the Blackwood Hotel. Celebrities, business tycoons, and media swarmed like bees around honey.

Damien and Liana arrived together—but tension simmered beneath their calm appearances.

She wore a midnight blue gown that shimmered with every step, and Damien's tailored black tuxedo made heads turn. But their chemistry turned even more.

"You look..." Damien hesitated, scanning her from head to toe.

Liana smirked. "Say it."

"Dangerous," he whispered. "And too beautiful for your own good."

"Afraid someone might steal me away tonight?" she asked.

He didn't answer. But his hand found her lower back possessively.

 The Past Returns

Midway through the evening, as they posed for photos, someone unexpected appeared—Olivia Chen, a journalist and... Damien's ex from college.

She greeted Damien like an old lover who had never truly left his thoughts.

"Liana, was it?" she said with a fake smile. "You're... quite the surprise."

Liana returned it. "Surprises tend to make life more exciting."

Olivia turned to Damien. "Still collecting beautiful women you don't know how to love?"

Liana's eyes flicked to Damien. But he stayed silent.

Liana stepped between them, chin high.

"Some men don't need to love publicly. Some love in silence—in the way they choose to stay."

Olivia's smile vanished.

 The Aftermath

After the gala, the car ride home was quiet. Damien looked out the window, while Liana tried not to let the words get under her skin.

"She's wrong," Damien said suddenly.

Liana turned. "About what?"

"I may not be good at love... but I've never collected you. I've chosen you."

Her breath caught.

The car stopped at a red light.

And for a moment, nothing existed but the space between them.

When they reached the penthouse, Liana went straight to the balcony, heart pounding. The wind caught her hair, and the city stretched like a galaxy below.

Damien followed quietly.

"Do you hate me?" he asked, leaning on the rail beside her.

"I hate how much I want to believe you," she admitted.

"Then believe this."

He turned her toward him—and kissed her.

It wasn't rushed. It wasn't forced. It was slow, deep, and filled with unsaid truths.

She didn't resist.

Because for the first time since they married...

The kiss didn't lie.

Morning After

Liana woke up in her room. Alone. The kiss hadn't changed everything, but it had changed something.

On her nightstand was a small folded note in Damien's handwriting:

"Don't run from what you feel. Neither will I."– Damien

She pressed the note to her chest, whispering, "Then let's see who runs first."

To be continue...
