Chapter 4 - Next steps

I honestly only headed back to my house because I didn't know what else to do. I figured once I got there I could at least patch Archie up better. It was an a miracle that none of the other dogs I managed to save where hurt. I was grateful that they were all right, but sad in that Archie had lost his ear.

It was OK though being a dog he probably wouldn't even miss it and he would still look cute without it. I wasn't one of those people who would hate on disabled dogs. It disgusted me that others would just abandon them because they were no longer what they once were.

Once we manage to get to my house, which only took 10 minutes just like the drive there, I unloaded all the dogs and went to work on patching up Archie.

I did a quick Google search on how to do stitching unfortunately the Internet wasn't down as of yet. I managed to get him all patched up the best I could given that we were in the apocalypse and then started thinking about what my next steps should be.

As I was thinking, I could still hear Rosie clawing at the door. The sound of it was breaking my heart and I knew I was going to have to do something about it.

The thought alone broke my heart and brought tears to my eye. The other dogs could sense something was wrong, and they also surrounded me and tried to comfort me.

"Thanks guys. I appreciate it." I told them and I really did appreciate it. " I guess where all the family now huh? It's you guys and me against the world!" I said with a chuckle.

I didn't have any tears left on my face because Huckleberry had licked them all off, but I did wipe off his drool. after that, I stood up and headed to my garage. I got some trash bags and headed outside of the garage and towards the fence. once I was by the fence line, I opened up three trash bags and put them inside of each other. I poke some small holes so she would be able to breathe then I open the gate and she jumped towards me and I caught her in the trash bags.

Given the fact that she was a Dachshund there wasn't much she could do to me. I took her over to the neighbors backyard, which was empty and fenced in and dumped her into it.

What did you think I was going to kill her?!?! I don't care if she's turned into the devil incarnate I am not killing my baby! I just needed her out of the yard so the other dogs could use it.

It made me really sad because it was like admitting that she wasn't my dog anymore and then she can't be with me anymore. The thought alone broke my heart, but it had to be done. The other dogs needed a place to potty after all.

With her in the neighbors yard, I could take care of her at least without her hurting me or the other dogs. I figured this was the best solution for now.

I cleaned up the dog yard behind my house and then let the other four dogs out to potty.

While they were in the yard doing their business, I turned on the TV again and started flipping through all the channels to see if any of them were working.

I figured at least one nude station might have an emergency broadcast that managed to get through and I was right.

It was a simple crude transmission that seemed to be on repeat. I waited for a while till it started back at the beginning so I could understand what was going on.

It was a very long winded and explainy Video that was on a loop but it basically boiled down to we have no clue what was going on, over 95% of the global population is dead, And almost all the Animals have gone crazy. But the most important piece I could pick up was that all supplies were now up for grabs.

They didn't say that explicitly but with 95% of the global population of people dead I figured there would be a lot of stuff right for the taking.

Excuse me if we're not breaking down in tears over almost the entire world being dead in a matter of seconds, but I didn't have any people that I love left alive in this world. Sure I had friends and I was really sad that they were dead, but the ones I was closest to were dogs and I still had some of them left and I needed to focus on keeping them alive.

So don't hate on me for having my priorities straight.

All the people that I loved in this world might be dead, but at least they left me behind what I needed to survive in the apocalypse. I mean, if I was living in some rundown apartment like I used to it probably would've already been taken over by zoo animals or something at this point.

Instead, I have my childhood home to write out the beginning of the end! I guess there are some perks to having your parents die. (If you couldn't tell that was sarcasm)

After I let the dogs inside, I started coming up with a plan. I had a fair amount of food at my house, but that wouldn't last too long. I knew my neighbors had a smoker and I also knew that the power wasn't gonna hold out forever so I needed to make a move fast.

I decided I would head to a few of my local grocery stores as fast as I can and get all the supplies I needed for now. While I was out, I would fill up my tank with gas too while the pump still worked.

I read enough apocalypse books to know that the infrastructure wouldn't hold out for long once the end started, so I needed to move fast!
