"I feel it too," she confessed, the words tumbling out before she could check them. "I... I knew you were coming down the hall before the door opened. I felt the cold."
Caelan closed his eyes, leaning his forehead against the cool glass of the window, just inches from her face. "You should not tell me that."
"Why?"
"Because," he murmured, "I am trying very hard to be a gentleman. I am trying to remember that I am a Duke and you are under my protection. But when you tell me you feel the pull... it makes me want to forget the rules."
"What rules?" Isadora breathed.
"The rules that say I cannot devour you," Caelan said, opening his eyes. They were bleak. "I am a predator, Isadora. You saw what I did to those guards at Viregate. You saw the monster."
"I saw a man saving a life," she countered, her voice trembling but fierce. "I saw a man who was in pain."
