Chapter 61: Hunted Upon Arrival
"Then let us depart."
The Emperor nodded, accepting Raven's counsel.
Raven spread his wings and ascended, circling above the Emperor and Valdor. Behind him, a vast, misty realm faintly materialized through the dimensional veil.
The Raven's jet-black form erupted into cascading light, the strands weaving together to outline a spacetime conduit leading to distant realities. The Emperor and Valdor stepped forward into the luminous passage.
The wondrous sensation of transcending all material bounds returned, that moment of existing beyond the constraints of singular reality.
In the crystal labyrinth of the Warp, the Master of Change felt the dimensional disturbance and lifted his gaze toward the eternal void. The accelerating mutations in realspace caused his power to surge exponentially.
He had become the dominant force in Subspace, his influence beginning to eclipse even his brother-gods.
The Architect of Fate understood well that the Cursed One had triggered these cascading changes across reality, though the specific mechanisms remained obscured.
He sought to trace the Emperor's path, to divine the source of such cosmic disruption.
His efforts yielded nothing. Beyond the universe's edge, past the eternal void itself, he found only absence.
The transcendent sensation faded. Soft illumination drew the Emperor back into material existence.
The constantly shifting spacetime vistas stabilized around him. Dreamlike, prismatic colors slowly dissolved into mundane reality.
The Emperor found himself standing upon a pristine street. Silver buildings rose on either side, their surfaces gleaming with mirror-bright perfection.
Spherical light orbs floated beside the structures, resembling luminous soap bubbles, and displayed various advertisements and civic announcements.
In the sky above, sleek silver shuttles wove through aerial traffic lanes between the towering spires.
The Emperor observed the pedestrians, all of whom possessed handsome, symmetrical features.
They wore coordinated silver garments and moved with composed, purposeful bearing. This was a civilization that had achieved both material abundance and social harmony.
"This realm appears prosperous," Valdor remarked, "though their aesthetic sensibilities favor uniformity. Everything gleams silver."
Unlike their arrival in the Three-Body universe, Valdor had not fallen into deep unconsciousness, merely experiencing mild disorientation. Multiple-dimensional transits had granted him increasing resistance to varying universal constants.
"Perhaps monotony serves their cultural ideals," the Emperor replied.
With their transhuman intellects, both warriors rapidly assessed their new environment. Anti-gravity systems, mass-energy conversion, and other advanced technologies were seamlessly integrated into every aspect of daily life.
This was undeniably a highly developed technological civilization.
Strangely, despite such sophisticated human achievement, they had made no apparent progress in space exploration. After researching archived historical records, the Emperor discovered troubling patterns.
Whenever humanity showed promise in aerospace development, catastrophic accidents would occur, disasters that shattered confidence and diverted resources away from stellar expansion.
It was as if some invisible hand guided destiny itself, preventing humanity from reaching beyond their world.
Just as the Emperor prepared to investigate this mystery further, the unexpected occurred.
As they crossed a grand plaza adorned with cascading fountains, the surrounding air rippled like disturbed water.
Spherical metal pods materialized around them with threatening precision. Hatches split open, and armored warriors emerged, their gear streamlined and purposeful.
The deployment vehicles faded from view as all combatants fixed their attention upon the Emperor.
Energy blades ignited from their wrist gauntlets with hissing brilliance.
"Kill him."
"Kill him, protect Eternity."
The warriors shouted with blatant hatred and charged toward the Emperor and Valdor.
"Big Guy, do you have enemies in this universe?" Raven looked at the Emperor. "Otherwise, why would someone want to kill you the moment we landed?!"
The Emperor sidestepped an attacker's thrust and delivered a devastating counterstrike that shattered bone and ceramite alike.
"You chose this universe; you're asking me??"
"Raven, are you trying to get rid of me and seize absolute power over the Empire?"
Raven smiled, "I didn't have the idea originally, but now that you mention it, I do. Once I seize absolute power, I'll make those planets pay fries and ketchup as tithes. Sounds pretty good, actually."
After a joke, Raven brought the conversation back.
"This is our first time in this universe. Logically, no one should notice us!"
"Big Guy, tell me honestly, besides offending those guys in the original universe, did you bully any passing Evil Gods?"
"I seriously suspect that when others passed by, you just kicked them a few times for no reason. That's why we were retaliated against as soon as we transmigrated."
"I didn't," the Emperor said. "What kind of image do you have of me? Why would you immediately think I was the one who caused trouble?"
Raven glanced at him and said faintly, "Your image has always been that of an arrogant freeloading debtor."
The Emperor: "..."
Speechless!!
Who understands? He was just poked in the heart!
Valdor silently gave a thumbs-up in his mind.
It was too accurate a description.
If anyone else criticized the Emperor, Valdor would be very angry.
But when Raven complained about the Emperor, he just wanted to give a thumbs-up silently.
The enemies were well-trained and wore high-tech armor. But they were no match for the Emperor and Valdor and were quickly dealt with.
The Emperor captured one alive, removed his helmet, and asked, "Why did you attack us?"
The man glared, as if the Emperor had a blood feud with him.
"Butcher, executioner, everyone should punish him."
"We will never submit to you, tyrant. One day, we will reclaim everything that belongs to us."
Raven said, "Big Guy, let me handle this. I'm good at getting information."
The Emperor nodded and brought the captive before Raven.
Raven used the authority of the Mist Space to read the opponent's information directly.
Soon, he understood the identity of these attackers.
"They are Time Guards, the defense force of Eternity."
"Time Guards? Eternity??" Valdor looked confused.
"How should I tell you?!" Raven scratched his head. "Let me first tell you the predetermined fate of this universe; perhaps you'll find the answer."
The technological development of humanity in this universe differed from that in other universes.
They did not develop nuclear energy, nor did they build aerospace technology. Instead, through various coincidences, they developed time technology.
A man named Marson created the first time field in the 24th century. In the 27th century, humanity deduced the Lefebvre equation, unraveling the secret of time travel.
Using time travel technology, a small group of human elites established Eternity. They utilized time travel technology to construct a Time Well, drawing energy from the sun's future explosion to sustain the time field and travel through various points in time.
At its inception, Eternity did not interfere with the development of human civilization. It merely served as a platform for inter-temporal trade and technological exchange.
However, the people of Eternity soon discovered that by making minor changes in the past, they could alter the entire future without being detected.
For example, by slipping a few adult magazines into a confident teenager's schoolbag. This made him obsessed with women, uninterested in studying, and unable to complete his education.
This way, the teenager would not become a scientist in the future. A technology that would have been born because of him would not have come into existence.
Because the timeline had changed and reality had been reshaped, in the new reality, those people would not know what Eternity had done.
Initially, Eternity only interfered with those who would bring about doomsday disasters for humanity.
Slowly, they began to influence important decisions, conflicts between nations, and the selection of leaders.
Ultimately, how the real world should develop was decided by them. As long as they deemed a particular technology or person unfavorable, they would initiate a change, erasing that technology and person.
Upon hearing this, the Emperor showed a look of shock.
"So arrogant and reckless? How dare they so casually decide the direction of an entire human civilization?"
"They won't think they're wrong; instead, they'll believe they're protecting humanity." Raven shrugged, preparing to continue.
Just then, a female voice suddenly echoed in the air.
"Emperor, Valdor, Raven, hello, I am here to help you."
