Chapter 17 - Chapter 17

The declaration, accompanied with Junghoon's warning pheromones had the officer reeling back.

"Well..." he stuttered, straightening to gain his confidence back. "I was just doing my job."

"By unleashing your disgusting pheromones on him?" Junghoon questioned.

He felt Jihoon's shoulders shake beneath his hands and he squeezed it, offering comfort.

"How pathetic," The alpha glared at the officer. "You violated the same rules you swore to uphold."

He released soothing pheromones, gently caressing Jihoon's neck to calm him.

"This omega deserves no respect," The officer sneered, not understanding the gravity of the situation.

"He is a killer and we have evidence—"

Interesting.

"Evidence?" Junghoon chuckled, gently fixing Jihoon's head on the chair. The omega had fallen asleep, a small crease on his forehead.

The door burst open and the Chief Inspector hurried in.

"Mr Jeon," he bowed, shaking when Junghoon's gaze fell on him.

"Have you received what I sent you?" The alpha asked.

The Chief Inspector nodded, dabbing the sweat on his forehead with a hand. "I did. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused."

"One of your own hurt my omega," Junghoon said, folding his sleeves. "What are you going to do about it?"

"What do you want us to do?"

The officer's eyes widened in disbelief. He couldn't believe the Chief was selling him out like this.

"He is a criminal—"

The Chief Inspector promptly shot him a glare and the rest of his protest died on his tongue.

Junghoon chuckled, eyes twinkling with amusement. He bent and lifted Jihoon in his arms.

The omega whimpered in his sleep, his frown deepening.

"It's alright," Junghoon whispered, kissing his temple softly. "You are safe now."

Jihoon adjusted in his arms as his breath evened, his frown disappearing.

The alpha glanced at the shivering officer. "You made my omega cry today," he clicked his tongue in disapproval.

"Fire him," he stated. "Have my omega's things released."

"It will be done right away," The Chief Inspector nodded solemnly and Junghoon walked out, his omega nestled in his arms.

The officer collapsed on the floor after the alpha left. The declaration destroyed his arrogance.

Like a puppet with it's strings cut, he watched as the Chief Inspector started getting his dismissal letter ready.

In this life, there are people you shouldn't mess with. The officer did and learnt the hard way.

Meanwhile, Junghoon sat in the car with Jihoon in his lap. He ran his hand through the omega's soft hair, hands curled possessively around his waist.

Jihoon slept peacefully, unaware of the turmoil going through the alpha's mind.

"Boss," The driver cleared his throat, watching them in the mirror. "Are we going dropping him off at home?"

Junghoon stared at the omega's face. He had gone through a lot in a few hours and definitely needed rest.

Send him home.

The alpha cleared his throat. "We are taking him to my house," he said instead, ignoring the voice of reasoning in his head.

The Driver's eyes bulged in shock. "Your house?"

"Mn."

"But you never—"

Junghoon glanced at him. "Do I pay you to question me, Minho?"

The driver swallowed, shaking his head. "I'm sorry, Boss."

 **************************

Jihoon's sliver eyes blinked open and he stared blankly at the ceiling.

"You are finally awake."

"Aahh!" The omega startled at the unexpected voice and he quickly sat up.

He hissed at the dizziness that slammed into him. "Junghoon?" he whispered, throat scratchy.

The alpha rushed to his side and gently held his hand. "Careful, Sweet. Don't move so fast."

He placed a glass of water against Jihoon's lips. "Take gentle sips, Sweet."

The omega obediently drank, staring at at Junghoon's face. "I don't want to drink anymore," he muttered, turning his head way.

The alpha put the glass aside, turning to look at Jihoon. "How are you feeling?"

"Why did you bring me here?"

Junghoon stood up, grabbing a tray of food. He placed it on the omega's lap. "Eat. You need strength."

Jihoon ignored the tray. "Why am I here? How did you know I was at the station?"

"Does it matter?" The alpha countered, sitting on the sofa. He pointed at the tray. "Eat or I will feed it to you."

The omega glanced at Junghoon's resolute face and sighed. He picked up the chopsticks and started eating.

They sat in tense silence.

Jihoon dropped his chopsticks. "I'm full."

The alpha stared at the half eaten tray. "You've barely eaten anything."

"I'm not hungry."

Junghoon scoffed at the omega's defiance. "Are you trying to piss me off or something?"

"Piss you off?" Jihoon rolled his eyes. "I haven't done anything to you."

Just who do you think you are?

The alpha chuckled darkly. "Alright then," he grabbed the tray and dropped it on the floor.

"You've not answered my question," The omega stated. "Why were you at the station?"

"Are you in a position to be asking me that?" Junghoon clicked his tongue. "Isn't it obvious enough?"

Jihoon stared at his hands in his lap, quiet.

"Why were you at the hospital the night Yujin died?" The alpha asked.

"I can't tell you that," The omega looked away. He heard Junghoon scoff.

"Was it worth risking your life for?"

"It is worth it," Jihoon whispered. He gently stood up and walked to the alpha.

"I'm very sorry for causing you to worry," he mumbled, staring up at him. "Thank you."

"Are you crazy?" Junghoon questioned, cradling his face. "I was worried something had happened to you, Sweet."

"Stop putting yourself in danger," he pleaded, embracing the omega. "I don't know you what I will do without you."

Jihoon stayed in the alpha's arms, feeling protected.

I'm sorry I can't tell you.

 ************

Jihoon knocked twice on the door of the apartment. He tapped his foot, nervously biting his lip.

The door swung open revealing Seungho's sleepy face.

The omega smiled. "Hi."

His friend's eyes cleared and he quickly hugged Jihoon, an excited squeal escaping his lips.

"You are safe," he whispered, a relieved exhale escaping his lips. "Thank goodness."

"I missed you too," The omega giggled. They went inside and Seungho sat him on the sofa.

"I went to see you but they didn't let me in," his friend huffed. "And then this morning I learnt you were already released."

"Why didn't you pick up your phone?!" Seungho asked. "I was so worried. I thought something had happened to you."

"I'm so sorry," Jihoon mumbled apologetically. "My phone died."

He brought out the device and his friend nodded faintly.

"How did you get out and why didn't you come home?"

"Junghoon got me out," Jihoon admitted, a smile on his face. "I slept at his place."

Seungho's brows raised. "Wow... That's..." he shook his head. "How did he know you were there?"

The omega shrugged. "I don't know. He has connections, it seems?"

"Well..." his friend exhaled, a relieved smile on his face. "That was certainly helpful."

"So...are you guys a thing now?"

Jihoon scoffed at Seungho's teasing smile. "So nosy," he pushed his friend's face away.

"You two are dating!" The other omega accused.

Jihoon neither affirmed or denied it. He stood up from the sofa, yawning.

"You are no fun at all," Seungho stuck a tongue at him.

"I'm going to rest," The omega said, walking to his room.

"Are you hungry?" his friend asked and he shook his head.

"I've already eaten."

"Your alpha kept you fed, I see."

"Fuck you, Park Seungho."

"I'm not sure that will work, Kang Jihoon."

Jihoon sighed and entered his room. It looked just like he left it.

His laptop was still on. "What a caring roommate I have," The omega muttered, reaching to turn it off.

An email popped up on the screen and he clicked on it.

SUSPENSION LETTER

Jihoon's breath quickened as he read it.

He has been suspended temporarily from work.

"No..."

The omega dropped on his knees, lips parted in shock. He covered his face with his hands, shoulders shaking with quiet sobs.
