The expedition team trekked through the scorched plains under a flickering dusty sky. The temperature around them shifted with the dry winds and distant volcanic activity. Crumbled ruins and half-buried relics of an ancient civilization occasionally jutted out of the sands.
Clod looked around, his eyes narrowing.
> "According to legend," he said calmly, "no one has ever reached the true Ignion Ruins. Some say the land itself rejects intruders… shifting, reshaping to mislead outsiders."
Veil walked ahead silently, arms crossed.
Show, however, wasn't paying attention. His eyes were locked on Veil's back with a grin of annoyance.
> "You walk like you've already conquered this place," Show muttered under his breath. "Cocky as ever."
Karen nudged him. "Seriously? You're still grinning like that at him?"
> "I don't trust him," Show whispered back. "Never did."
Suddenly—
BOOM!
A glowing red barrier lit up around them—the ground cracked beneath their feet. Shadows leapt from the rocks and sand.
> "Ambush!" shouted Clara, drawing her dual enchanted blades.
A volley of fire arrows and stone hammers came crashing down—but Clod calmly raised his hand.
> Spatial Magic: Warp Shield
A transparent cube surrounded the team, bending incoming attacks harmlessly into another dimension.
> "They're skilled," Clod muttered, "but sloppy."
The shield dropped, and the battle began.

The Combat Begins
Show charged toward a masked enemy wielding a fire-forged staff. His opponent smirked, spinning the staff and clashing with Show mid-air.
> CLANG—FWOOSH!
Show caught the staff with one hand, ready to rip it away—but suddenly the enemy twisted it, releasing a hidden shockwave.
WHAM!
Show was launched across the battlefield, crashing into a stone slab.
> "What the—" he winced. "My fire magic… feels off…"
---
Meanwhile—
Drake froze two enemies mid-motion, creating a ramp of ice that he skated on to deliver a swift Ice Lance through their defenses.
Raelyn used beams of light to ricochet off stone fragments, blinding his opponent before trapping them in a prism.
Lyra summoned her vines to weave traps and constrict two enemies at once with graceful coordination.
Karen unleashed multiple charm blasts to distract her opponent before hitting them with a surprise Heatflare Pulse.
Veil, quiet and swift, used Shadow Strike clones to confuse his opponent and knock them unconscious with a backhand from his real self.
---
Show, now frustrated, stood up, wiping dust off.
> "You want fire? Fine."
He planted his foot down hard.
> Fire Kick: Blazing Step!
His fire roared again—though still dulled. He spun and unleashed a fierce barrage of flaming jabs and landed a kick to his enemy's gut, knocking him out cold.
> "Not bad," said Clara, slightly impressed.
---
After the dust settled, the masked enemies dropped their weapons and bowed.
Their leader—a tall man with glowing orange eyes—stepped forward.
> "We are the Guardians of Ignion, servants of the ancient flame. Our duty is to protect the ruins from the unworthy."
He scanned the group… but when his eyes met Show, something in his expression shifted. A subtle flash of recognition—or was it shock?
He didn't say anything, but Raelyn, watching silently nearby, noticed the shift.
> "Interesting…" Raelyn thought, but said nothing.
The guardian leader spoke again.
> "You have proven yourselves capable. I will allow you passage. The true entrance lies beyond the Howlen Gate Rock. Only those who resonate with the flame can enter."
---
Later – Arrival at the Gate
The group walked through shifting sands until they stood before a massive stone arch, half-buried in volcanic ash.
The rock formation, pulsing faintly with red glyphs, resembled a snarling wolf.
Clod stepped up. "This is it. The Howlen Gate."
Suddenly, a presence emerged from the other side.
A tall man, cloaked in deep crimson and ash-black robes, stood at the base of the rock.
He smiled faintly.
> "Well, well... hello, unknown people."
His voice was calm but filled with quiet menace.
