Chapter 41: Fear of Being Vulnerable
In this world, Lillian only had herself to depend on.
She had Denise, but Denise had her own battles to fight, too, so she could not be present all the time either.
After all, friends don't stay together all the time. They both had their battles, and they survived even when all alone. Their friendship was a comradeship of knowing how they survived so many battles all alone and moved forward despite all of it.
And Leo was just a new introduction to Lillian's life. Just one month together, 1 year of talking, and two years of nothing. There's no way she would be lonely without him!
"Let go," Lillian said, trying to break free from his embrace. "I'm perfectly fine."
She didn't want him to think her world revolved around him, even when he was not around.
And she didn't want to stay in his arms any longer. This warmth was a temptation she did not want to get used to when she won't have it anyway.
