Dorset County.
At the Scamander Residence.
"Is this really Nagini?"
Newt looked at the miniature, unconscious snake before him.
"Yes, I've checked, and it's indeed Nagini.
She was subdued by one of my students and reduced to her current size through Transfiguration," Dumbledore nodded.
Newt examined the dark green scale in his hand—it was the same one Dumbledore had found in the sewer.
Based on his years of research on magical beasts, he could easily imagine how enormous a snake would have to be to possess such a large scale.
Yet, a snake this size had been reduced to such a tiny size through Transfiguration.
"Your student is quite capable... I thought you had personally assisted her," Newt exclaimed.
"There's something special about this student of mine.
Let's not discuss this for now. Now, we should think about how to care for her."
Dumbledore looked at Nagini with concern.
"Nagini is a blood-cursed orc. Although she's fully transformed, we can't leave her alone."
Newt raised his head, his gaze determined.
Dumbledore nodded, but then added, "The Transfiguration spell that shrunk her might wear off soon... Are you sure?"
A shrunken Nagini wouldn't pose any threat, but if the Transfiguration wore off and she returned to her full size, she'd be extremely dangerous.
Newt said, "Let's try to wake her up first. I need to see what her personality is like, and then we can formulate a plan... Don't worry, I'm experienced in dealing with dangerous magical creatures."
Suddenly, Nagini on the table stirred.
Newt hurriedly asked, "Has the Transfiguration worn off?"
Dumbledore looked at her and said, "No, it must be the Stunning Spell I added later."
Nagini on the table had fully awakened.
She raised her snake head, surveyed herself in confusion, then took in her surroundings.
Upon seeing Newt and Dumbledore, she suddenly became agitated.
"Hiss, hiss, hiss...
" Newt turned to Dumbledore excitedly. "
If I'm not mistaken, Nagini should be awake now!"
Dumbledore nodded. "
I can understand a little.
She said she's awake... Yes, I once learned some Parseltongue out of curiosity."
"You're truly knowledgeable, Professor," Newt said admiringly. "
Uh, what is she saying now?"
Although Newt was a Master of Magical Creatures, he could usually guess what a magical creature meant by its movements or calls.
However, he still couldn't accurately translate its words.
Dumbledore listened to Nagini's voice again, then turned and took a piece of parchment and a bottle of ink and placed them in front of Nagini.
Nagini, upon seeing the ink, immediately dipped her tail into the ink bottle and began to write crookedly on the parchment.
A moment later, a hint of surprise crossed the faces of both Dumbledore and Newt.
"You mean, if you remain in your current state, you can stay awake?"
Dumbledore asked.
Nagini spitted out her tongue and nodded slowly.
Then she began writing on the paper with her tail again.
"As your beastly body weakened, so too did your beastly soul.
So, your human consciousness took over? Hiss... even weakening the soul?
Can Transfiguration have such an effect?"
Newt looked at Dumbledore in surprise.
Dumbledore fell into deep thought. As a master of Transfiguration, he knew perfectly well that ordinary Transfiguration couldn't achieve this level of effect, nor could it affect the soul.
So... was this a characteristic of ancient magic?
Levid used ancient magic to perform Transfiguration, shrinking Nagini to this size.
Otherwise, even Levid, a genius at Transfiguration, wouldn't have been able to successfully reduce Nagini to such a small size.
In other words, Transfiguration, when used on a human or animal, can significantly weaken all of their attributes, including their physical and spiritual attributes.
The blood-cursed orc Nagini's condition is essentially the equivalent of two souls within a single body: one her human soul, and the other, the cursed beast soul.
As she ages, the beast soul grows stronger.
When it becomes stronger than her human soul, Nagini can no longer transform back into a human.
Now, while the beast soul still controls Nagini's body, Levid casts a powerful ancient magic called Transfiguration on her.
This spell weakens both her physical attributes and the spiritual attributes of the beast soul that controlled her.
This allows the previously vulnerable human soul to temporarily become stronger than the beast soul, allowing Nagini to regain consciousness at this stage.
Thinking it through, Dumbledore finally smiled.
"Perhaps we've finally found a way to temporarily halt the onset of the blood curse on the orcs..."
Newt asked doubtfully.
"Just Transfiguration?"
"No, ordinary Transfiguration probably won't work," Dumbledore smiled.
"And some extraordinary Transfiguration?"
"Yes... very extraordinary! Well, I'll explain that to you later. Now that we've found a way, I'll take Nagini with me." Dumbledore stood up.
Newt nodded.
"Alright, you can write to me later. For now, saving people is the priority."
Dumbledore nodded, then picked up the cage and opened the door.
"Please come in. I've found a way to temporarily halt the blood curse for you."
Nagini nodded happily and slowly climbed into the cage.
Dumbledore closed the cage door and was about to leave when an owl flew in from the window.
The owl landed on the table, looked at Dumbledore, and dropped the letter in front of him.
Dumbledore picked up the letter and immediately saw Levid's familiar handwriting.
A faint smile crept across his face as he tore it open and began to read.
"Ah... so you wanted to see the information, and by the way, the name of that senior..."
Dumbledore paused mid-sentence, his smile now awash with uncertainty!
The Hog's Head Inn.
Levid set down his quill, picked up the parchment, blew the ink dry, and then gently tapped it with his wand.
In a split second, the parchment transformed into a butterfly.
It took flight, circling Levid's head before soaring out the window and flying up into the attic...
Tom, lying in bed, watched Levid's elaborate Transfiguration spell and turned away in disdain.
However, the suddenness of his turn, which strained his wounds, made him grimace in pain.
It proved that daring to fight Levid when one was weaker than needed would come at a price.
Not only was he aching all over, but he was also punished by not being allowed to look at any spellbooks for a day...
What a loss!
Tom could only lie quietly in bed, reflecting on his failures and imagining how he could defeat Levid...
A moment later, a thousand paper cranes made of parchment flew down from the attic, landed in front of Levid, and automatically opened.
Written on the paper were words:
"I'll keep this a secret for you.
Also, thank you for saving me and Nagini... Oh, and that's a beautiful Transfiguration! —Aurelius."
Levid happily burned the note before turning to look at Tom.
"After all this time reflecting on yourself, do you realize you were wrong?"
"I know..." Tom said unwillingly.
"What was wrong?"
"You're going too far!" Tom couldn't help himself again.
"A servant can't contradict his master..."
Just as Levid continued to bully Tom, a long-lost voice suddenly echoed in his head.
"Ding! Congratulations to the host for successfully stopping Nagini's evil fall, sparing those who will die in the future at her hands!"
"Ding! Congratulations to the host for earning 5,000 merit points!"
