Chapter 43 - Chapter 43 Strange Lighter

  "Ding-dang-dang!"

The bell at the door of the store rang.

Levite and Tom walked in, and were greeted by a strange stench...

The merchandise in this store was displayed very messily.

It was more like a warehouse for old things than a store.

Second-hand robes were piled on a counter on the left side of the entrance, like a pile of garbage.

Several adult wizards in plain clothes were picking and choosing, hoping to find the right size for their children.

On the right side, there was a pile of messy books.

Most of these books were second-hand textbooks, torn and old.

There were only a few other books, but they looked only average.

The second-hand books in good condition must have been picked up long ago...

Tom frowned, looking at the garbage, and couldn't help feeling a little relieved.

Although following Levid on that mission was incredibly risky, it also saved him from having to buy so much junk from such a place...

Levid was right. If he had brought the junk he'd bought from there into Hogwarts, he'd definitely have been looked down upon.

Clothes make the man, and the saddle makes the horse.

Before people know your abilities, they'll naturally judge you by appearance!

Unlike the enthusiastic and welcoming clerks in other shops, this one was currently dozing off on the counter.

Only when someone came to pay did he listlessly look up to count the goods and collect the money.

The merchandise in the store was all cheap, so the clerks' salaries weren't particularly high.

It was only natural that they weren't very motivated.

However, despite the clerk's lack of enthusiasm, there were still quite a few wizards browsing the store.

Levid quickly found what he wanted in the glass display on the street side.

Bundles of battered wands, along with a large bundle of quills with their feathers completely stripped out, were dumped into the same box, like a pile of haphazardly bundled firewood.

Tom's heart sank as he looked at the secondhand wands, so broken that even the cores were visible.

Would casting magic with these wands really not cause him to explode?

Levid wasn't particularly surprised.

How could a wand discarded like garbage be in good condition?

However, these battered wands were just the thing for Levid.

After all, many of them were likely salvaged from the bodies of fallen wizards, often bearing a few "spirit rings"...meaning, tempered by their previous owners, these wands were already highly suited to the Dark Arts.

Perfect for Levid to practice some undetectable magic...

After a while, Levid happily pulled a wand from the pile, only a few bits of paint chipping.

"Wow! 100% mint! A rare find!"

Compared to the other wands, whose cores had fallen out, this one was in excellent condition.

"Here you go," Levid said, handing it to Tom and then returning it to the pile of wands.

Tom took the wand and waved it around. Overall, it felt quite comfortable.

Besides, this wand gave him a strange feeling, as if... it was excited to meet him?

  "This one."

This time, Mr. Ollivander wasn't there to patiently explain the wands to them.

So, Tom had no idea what material it was made of.

However, since it was still comfortable, it could be used as a spare wand.

When Levid emerged from the pile again, he had five second-hand wands in his hands.

While none of them were in the best condition as the one Tom had just held, they still worked well.

At least the cores were still contained within the wands.

"Why did you buy so many?"

Tom asked, puzzled.

  "It's better to be prepared."

Livid took the five wands in his hand and looked at the other goods in the store.

Tom was not in a hurry to leave at this time, but walked towards the pile of old books...

Toby had just said that, despite the abundance of trash here, someone still managed to find something.

Tom wondered if perhaps hidden among this pile of garbage were some precious magical manuscripts...

Levvid, in perfect unison, approached the pile of books with Tom.

Tom crouched on the ground, frowning, and with his old wand, he pushed aside several grimy, secondhand textbooks and began to carefully search through them.

Levvid, on the other hand, circled around the pile, intending to start from the other side.

Just as Levvid was about to pass by, ready to see if there were any unique old books, he felt something flicker in his eyes.

Puzzled, Levvid turned to the nearby shelf.

There, stacked haphazardly, were a collection of strange alchemical tools, most of which were undoubtedly damaged.

Levvid approached the shelf and spotted a faint blue light flickering on it.

Like Tom, he pulled out his old wand and tried to push the debris aside.

With these alchemical tools of unknown origin and purpose, even if they were incomplete, caution was advised.

At this moment, the source of the faint blue light finally became apparent to Levite.

It was a golden bar, two fingers thick, engraved with strange patterns Levite couldn't decipher. It looked like an intricately carved lighter.

The faint blue light flickered on these strange patterns.

Levite gently prodded the "lighter" with his wand.

The "lighter" showed no reaction, and the blue light continued to flicker.

Levite flicked his wand gently, and a small gecko on the wall flew over and landed on the "lighter"!

After a long while, Levite realized that the gecko was acting normally, and finally released it.

The little gecko fled in panic, without incident.

Only then did Levite confidently reach out and pick up the "lighter."

In reality, while this shop collects and sells used items, it's also a legitimate business and absolutely doesn't buy items related to the Dark Arts.

Most people wouldn't bring Dark Arts items here to sell; they'd usually sell them in Knockturn Alley.

What Levid had just done was just a precaution.

Levid carefully examined the lighter in his hand, then carefully pressed his finger over the blue light.

  "Click!"

A thin crack appeared on the top of the lighter.

Levid gently pried it open with his thumb, and the lid slid open along the crack, revealing a small, faint blue flame...

Levid hadn't expected this thing to be just an ordinary lighter.

No... How could an ordinary lighter glow for no reason?

  "Click!"

Levid closed the lid, extinguishing the small flame.

"Tom, take a look at this."

"What's wrong?" Tom walked over, his eyes fixed on the lighter Levid had handed him. "Isn't this just an ordinary lighter?"

"Ordinary? Don't you notice it's glowing?" Li Weide asked doubtfully.

"Light? Where's the light?"

Tom took the lighter and looked at it, then said with a look of disgust: "It can't even be turned on."

"You can't see the light on it? And it can't be turned on?"

Li Weide touched his chin, looking at the lighter that was still emitting a faint blue light in Tom's hand.

"Well, in my opinion, this is just a gold-plated lighter, and..." Tom fiddled with the lighter again.

"It really can't be turned on."

Li Weide took the lighter and flicked it lightly with his thumb.

  "Click!"

  The lighter was turned on.

Tom widened his eyes, "This... I'll try again!"

However, no matter how Tom tried, he couldn't turn on the lighter like Li Weide.

"In other words, this blue light is indeed only visible to me..."

Li Weide looked thoughtfully at the lighter in his hand that was emitting a faint blue light.
