Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Fierce Battle with the Ice Rider Calyrex

"Lucas?"

Marnie pressed her lips tightly together, looking at Lucas with worry in her eyes.

It seemed... had Calyrex been provoked?

Otherwise, why would the King of Bountiful Harvests—famed for his benevolence—suddenly attack them without reason?

Then again, if one had to choose between Zacian and Eternatus, it wasn't really surprising that Calyrex would side with Zacian.

Lucas licked his lips, his crimson eyes flashing as he stared intently at Calyrex riding atop the white horse.

"I've lost count of how many years it's been since I last fought with all my strength. Today, allow me to enjoy myself to the fullest!"

"Bring out Eternatus, human, and let us have a fair and just duel."

Calyrex's majestic gaze locked onto Lucas, and his clear telepathic voice echoed in the air.

"Although this partner of yours is quite remarkable, it still is not a worthy opponent for me."

He gave a sidelong glance at the beautiful Dragonair and spoke calmly.

He had already probed its strength earlier—while strong, the Dragonair was still not threatening enough.

"So that's how it is. Then let it be as Your Majesty wishes."

Lucas's lips curled into a slow grin as he took out the Heavy Ball. A fair and just duel, huh?

Calyrex really was the same good guy as always.

"Eternatus! Prepare for battle!"

Without hesitation, Lucas tossed the Heavy Ball with a reverse flick.

"ROARRR!"

A blinding white light flashed, and the colossal Eternatus emerged mid-air. Its deep and weighty dragon's roar rumbled across the sky.

A sinister red glow radiated ominously, dyeing the snow-covered world in shades of blood crimson.

Eternatus lowered its head, its dragon eyes—speckled with white pupils—stared down at the white horse-mounted Calyrex. The heavy pressure of its dragon aura surged outward.

Though it had been inside the Poké Ball, Eternatus had still sensed the situation around it clearly. It knew perfectly well why Lucas had released it.

"Neiiighhh~"

Glastrier let out an increasingly excited shriek. Unlike its calm and quiet black-horse counterpart, Spectrier, the white steed was aggressive and belligerent to the core!

Whenever it encountered a powerful opponent, Glastrier couldn't help but provoke and engage in battle!

----------------------------------------------

As Eternatus unleashed its dragon aura without restraint, far off in a snowy mountain range, a blue light flickered atop a distant snow peak.

"They've appeared. Are they facing an enemy?"

Zacian turned its head, a cold glint in its eyes. Eternatus had appeared out of nowhere, and judging by the unrestrained aura, it seemed to be engaged in battle?

In this Crown Tundra, who else could push Eternatus to such a state of full-force combat?

Aside from Calyrex—who else could it be?!

"This time, I won't let you escape!"

With a flash of thought, Zacian darted toward Eternatus's location at full speed.

------------------------------------------------

"As expected of the rumors. Such overwhelming pressure—very impressive."

Calyrex raised his head, gazing at Eternatus and nodding with satisfaction.

The aura of Eternatus had not disappointed.

He was a king! Even when facing an opponent, that opponent had to be powerful enough! Otherwise—what right did they have to fight him personally?

"A battle between legends, huh..."

Even the frigid air seemed thick with tension and oppression. Marnie clenched her small hands nervously as she looked at the face-off between Eternatus and the white horse-mounted Calyrex.

This was a true clash between top-tier legends!

Marnie's usually fair and delicate face was now tinged with red—not from the cold, but from overwhelming tension and excitement.

Countless trainers across the world dreamed of encountering a legendary Pokémon just once in their lives.

Even if they couldn't capture it—it would still be an encounter to remember forever!

And now, Marnie was about to witness with her own eyes—the battle between the legendary King of Bountiful Harvests and the origin of the Darkest Day.

What a thrilling spectacle this was going to be!

"Of course it's impressive! Now then, Calyrex, I look forward to your guidance!"

Lucas's smile curved wickedly—he wasn't the only one excited.

He was just as thrilled as Marnie!

This would be his first true battle against a formidable opponent since teaming up with Eternatus!

Calyrex riding Glastrier—this form of Calyrex was undoubtedly a top-tier legendary!

"I will not hold back,"

Calyrex declared with solemn authority through telepathy.

"I am a king! The King of Legends! Against any enemy, I will go all out with absolute might!"

"Glastrier!"

"Neiiiighhh!"

As Calyrex shouted, Glastrier reared up on its front hooves, releasing a powerful burst of icy energy.

Above Eternatus, massive icicles silently began to form. At the same time, the white horse charged through the air toward Eternatus in a frontal assault!

The battle erupted in an instant!

Massive, sharp icicles plummeted from above. Compared to the ones from before, these were clearly more terrifying in both size and number.

Obviously, the earlier attack from Calyrex had just been a "greeting."

"Dragon Tail!"

Lucas commanded mentally.

He and Marnie had already retreated another distance under the protection of Dragonair.

Battles between top-tier legendaries could easily cause collateral damage—there was no way he'd allow himself to remain in danger.

He had now established telepathic communication with Eternatus to issue commands more efficiently.

"Roarr!"

Eternatus growled lowly. Its long skeletal tail shimmered with a green-blue light before it lashed upward with heavy force.

Smash!

The Dragon Tail shattered the falling icicles completely.

"Cross Poison!"

Immediately after, Eternatus's sharp claws came together, forming a deep purple X-shaped energy blade that slashed toward the charging Calyrex.

It was the Poison-type move, Cross Poison!

Eternatus was a Poison/Dragon-type, whereas the Ice Rider Calyrex was Psychic/Ice-type!

Strictly speaking, Eternatus was at a type disadvantage.

Psychic beats Poison. Ice beats Dragon!

But compared to Zacian's overwhelming type advantage over Eternatus, this wasn't nearly as bad.

After all, Poison- and Dragon-type moves still dealt normal damage to the Ice Rider Calyrex.

A type disadvantage? For a Poison Dragon like them, that was practically the norm!

And Lucas had faced many such battles throughout his growth as a trainer.

"We're not afraid of that kind of attack!"

Calyrex showed no fear in the face of the incoming Cross Poison.

A deep blue light surged in his eyes as a wave of rainbow-hued psychic energy shot forth—

It was the Psychic-type move, Psychic!

Boom!

Psychic collided with Cross Poison in midair and exploded violently.

Smoke filled the skies. But in the very next instant, a swift white figure burst through the clouds.

Double-Edge!

Glastrier's body glowed with a faint white light as it rammed into Eternatus's neck with brutal force!

"ROAR!"

Under the enormous impact, Eternatus's giant frame was knocked back several meters.

Letting out a pained roar, Eternatus glared angrily.

"Don't let it escape! Dragon Claw!"

Lucas narrowed his eyes and gave a telepathic command.

If this were the game, the Ice Rider Calyrex had a base Attack stat of 165—

It was the strongest physical attacker among Calyrex's three forms!

By logic, it should be very slow. But clearly, game stats couldn't be applied one-to-one to reality.

With that kind of charging speed, Glastrier slow? No way!

"Hah! You think you can hit and run? Dream on!"

Lucas locked onto the sky, noticing that Calyrex tried to retreat after landing a hit.

He sneered. Eternatus's defensive endurance far surpassed anyone's expectations!

"ROARRR!"

Despite the searing pain in its neck, Eternatus's sharp claws gleamed green as it tore through the air, slashing toward Calyrex.

The slicing Dragon Claw stirred a freezing wind!

Calyrex's eyes narrowed. He raised both hands and launched a bright green energy sphere.

Energy Ball! A Grass-type move!

The sphere collided with Dragon Claw, slowing it briefly before being shredded.

Boom!

Dragon Claw struck Calyrex hard, and the white horse-mounted monarch was sent flying like a cannonball, crashing into the ground in an explosion of snow.

"Amazing!"

Marnie's eyes sparkled as she witnessed Eternatus's quick and forceful counterattack. She was stunned.

"It only looked amazing. Calyrex probably didn't suffer much damage,"

Lucas shook his head.

The Ice Rider form of Calyrex excelled in both physical offense and defense.

The Dragon Claw just now, though fierce, had been launched while Eternatus was countering.

Plus, it had been partly blocked by Energy Ball, so its power wasn't at full strength.

It might've even done less damage than Calyrex's previous Double-Edge.

"Calyrex and Glastrier... this combo really is troublesome."

Lucas's eyes flashed with sharp light.

Technically speaking, Calyrex and Glastrier formed a single unit.

But unlike Kyurem fusing with Reshiram or Zekrom, this fusion still allowed both minds to remain independent—and attack or defend separately.

That kind of "fusion" was terrifying.

It meant Calyrex could split its focus—offensively and defensively—making it nearly invincible in a one-on-one.

"Then let's take it down with overwhelming force!"

"Eternatus, use Dynamax Cannon!"

Without hesitation, Lucas gave the next command.
