Chapter 2 - Living Corpses

Around 3 years ago..

The sounds of steel plates echoed throughout the rooms. Footsteps and chatters filled it even more, as people were seen coming into a big hall located around the middle of a huge building.

Friction between the steel floors and the half alive bodies being dragged towards the hall scattered the scratching and metalish sounds. Multiple people were pulling the ropes to bring around 15 people to the hall, some conscious and some not.

After entering it, the person in front of them shouted, "All of them, caught every one of them. This was maybe their final mission, though it wasn't final in a way they expected!"

"Good work, have to say, you guys never fail. I do want to see what happens to their leader now, after all she is very close to us, isn't she?", a Man standing in front of the bringers replied. He was of middle age, wearing much fancier clothing than the people who brought the captured ones.

Everyone slid to the sides, as that man walked towards the tied up people, he one by one checked everyone. Many of them were still struggling and murmuring, some of their eyes wet, some filled with anger. Few of the conscious ones were too tired to struggle anymore.

He finally reached the person he mentioned before as the 'leader'.

"So, Miss Veronica, is there anything you want to say?", he said after he untied the band covering her mouth.

Her eyes were all red, and she seemed like she was suppressing her words, as she only said, "I have no deal with you. Bring my sister.."

The struggling of the others stopped as they looked towards Veronica, it seemed as if they felt a moment of relief with the confidence of their leader.

The man looked at her for a moment silently and then just stood up and smiled slightly. He went back to where he was standing and stayed there for a few seconds before the automatic door beside him, connecting the hall to another, opened.

A woman, with hair as dark as her eyes, stepped into the hall through the door. She was tall, same goes to her hair. She didn't have any expression while she entered, but after her eyes laid on Veronica, she tilted her head and smiled.

"Oh Veronica, why did you have to do all this? Didn't you have a pretty good life already?"she asked, standing.

Veronica, sitting around her feet, said, "I…I can't answer that anymore, but tell me, why did you start all this? You are the sole reason I had to…I had to organise this Anti-O3 group.", her voice was crumbling, and her eyes stared into the woman standing deeply.

"What perfect logic you give every time, but do you know that I enjoy this? Of course you do, you have seen me grow up after all. Remember that time when you got perfect marks on maths and father gave you a bicycle? Yes, I wasn't given one, because I didn't score good. And what was the next exam's results like? I scored hundred on hundred on each and every subject. Don't you see I can't just live like you.", she said.

"Sister, you could have led a better life, a much safer one too, right?", Veronica was almost crying, her anger was fading out from her eyes as she bowed down to destiny.

"Don't ask me that question again, I am really tired of saying the same thing again and again. I stopped asking who I am a long time ago, Veronica. I simply became what I could. And you? You stood in my way with your Anti-O3 group. Are you satisfied with the answer now?", she said while not looking at Veronica until the last words.

Veronica, after staring at the woman a little more, loosened her head and fell on the ground, with her hands tied. Weeping could be heard.

"I wanted to say a lot to you, but it seems like you aren't in the form to take all those words.", Veronica whispered, lots of murmuring sounds came from the back, as the other people of the Anti-O3 group tried to scream.

"Enough of your crying", the woman aggressively held Veronica's hair and pulled her up while she was almost silent.

"Give me the blades", the woman ordered, and a triangle shaped sharp object was given to her.

She immediately held the blade tight and pushed it straight into Veronica's left eye, "You should've never come into my way."

She did it the second time, pushing even deeper into the eye, this time spilling a lot of blood. Her ears didn't quite observe the screams coming from Veronica, as she continued saying, "Let me give an easier death, for being my sister."

She stabbed her eyes multiple times and then threw her away. Veronica's body was still trembling, spilling a lot of blood.

"Now, your turn guys, remove every single one of them from existence", her voice was calm, as if nothing happened. Her order quickly made all the other people get knives in their hands.

Current time

"Everyone, they killed everyone…", Gillian spoke slowly, but was interrupted by Gary as he asked the question that was bugging him the whole time she was telling him the story.

"But how do you know all of these?"

"I know this…because, I was one of them..", she took a pause, "I was a member of the Anti-O3 team.", Gillian looked into Gary's eyes.

"But….but you are alive?"

3 years back..

"Last one….she is the last one, bring her here..", the woman, standing there motionlessly, ordered with her commanding voice.

Among the bloody and dead bodies, there was Gillian, still breathing and struggling inside the ropes. She was then dragged and brought in front of the woman by one of the young men and he started to use the knife in his hand to cut the rope and proceed to slaughter her like everyone else.

She was still struggling, and the young man was violently untying the ropes.

The woman standing then turned towards the middle-aged man, who was also witnessing this slaughter, and said, "Now then, the anti-O3 is erased. We should proceed with our deal with the Russian company…"

As she was talking, she noticed some change in the expression of the middle-aged man and some sounds coming from behind her. She turned around and saw that the last girl was fully untied and was being carried by the young man, towards the exit door.

"What are you doing!!", the middle-aged man shouted and the woman was clenching her fists. She immediately pulled out the gun from her pocket and aimed towards the young man.

He was now running at a faster speed, very close to the door. As soon as he sensed the gun he quickly put Gillian down and shouted, "Gillian!! Run as fast as you can!", the automatic door opened.

But the bullet was faster than the young man's reflex, hitting him straight on the head, penetrating him, it hit the door itself, and closed it again.

"Eric!!", Gillian cried out as she saw him dying in front of her, "Why did you…..why!", her cries were occasional, shocks travelled through her body as the woman immediately shot another bullet aimed towards Gillian.

Unlike Eric, Gillian's instincts didn't allow her to end it all there, and she moved as fast as she could. Seeing the door opening the second time, her body didn't waste a second and exited the hall. At the very last second, she could see a lot of people, including the middle-aged man coming towards her. Upon exiting, she locked the door from the outside.

"Well, I didn't expect a traitor among these losers…", the woman said while standing alone inside the hall.

Gillian's body was shaking, she ran and ran and ran, until she found an underground bunker. She hid inside it and started crying, but silently...

Current time

"Hey…hey, I understand….", Gary slowly put his hands on Gillian's face and started wiping her tears, "Don't cry now.."

"I…I loved him so much, yet I couldn't even save him, I…I couldn't even see his corpse..", Gillian's crying was still silent, despite this time the environment allowing her to cry out loud.

Gary stayed silent for a bit, but then asked, "How did you manage to escape afterwards? Wasn't the security tight?", Gary's intention was to distract Gillian from her dreadful past, and it kind of worked..

"Yes, but I managed to hack into the systems to distract them from the path I chose to escape. It wasn't easy, but it wasn't hard either…"

"What a genius you are, isn't that right?", Gary said after wiping all her tears.

Gillian breathed out and a slight smile appeared on her face.

"And strong…Can I say something, Gillian?", Gary paused before speaking further.

"Of course, do it.", Gillian spoke slowly.

"Look at you, you are still so right in the head after losing your partner, your brother, your parents and team members. And look at me…I couldn't stay controlled after I just lost my father…", Gary's head descended, and his voice got quieter.

"Leave all that, Gary. What has happened can't be undone. Let's try to look forward.", Gillian told him with the same smile, Gary reflected the smile.

"You know Gary, you remind me of Eric….."

Somewhere, inside a tunnel

I wonder where we are heading… what is awaiting us. But I really wanna know….really…
