Bright light engulfed Alakazam. When it faded, Mega Alakazam floated in the air, five spoons hovering around it in a meditative circle.
Its beard was white and long, signifying its immense wisdom and power.
Facing Sabrina's Mega Alakazam, Alder's expression became much more dignified.
Even though Volcarona had used Quiver Dance and Fiery Dance to boost its stats, it was still a normal Pokémon.
It couldn't bridge the raw stat gap created by Mega Evolution without a perfect strategy.
"Volcarona, use Leech Life!"
Alder's plan was simple. Leech Life is a Bug-type move, which is super-effective against Psychic types.
He wanted to deal massive damage while recovering Volcarona's health.
The black spots on Volcarona's wings swirled like black holes, attempting to drain energy from the opponent.
However, Sabrina had prepared for this exact moment.
(Alakazam. Wonder Room.)
"Zaaaam!"
Mega Alakazam waved its spoons. Psychic energy rippled through the stadium, colliding with the fabric of space.
With the blessing of the Psychic Terrain still on the field, the move activated instantly.
Wonder Room.
It was a bizarre, rarely seen technique.
It constructed a special law within the arena: For all Pokémon, Physical Defense and Special Defense stats are swapped.
Both Alakazam and Volcarona are species with high Special Defense but fragile Physical Defense.
Under the effects of Wonder Room, their stats were reversed.
They both transformed into Physical Tanks with paper-thin Special Defense.
This was the trap.
Alder's Leech Life is a Physical Attack.
When Volcarona struck, it hit Mega Alakazam's Defense stat, which was now equal to its massive Special Defense.
Ping!
The attack landed, but it did negligible damage. Consequently, Volcarona healed almost nothing.
Alder, an experienced Champion, realized instantly what had happened.
"Wonder Room!" Alder gritted his teeth.
He did the math in his head.
If Defense and Sp. Def were swapped... that meant Volcarona's Special Defense was now equal to its terrible base Physical Defense.
It was a sitting duck for Special Attacks.
"Volcarona! All or nothing! Use Fire Blast!"
Volcarona immediately began to gather intense flames, forming the shape of a giant star.
But Alder was one step too slow.
Sabrina didn't need to speak. Her telepathic command was instantaneous.
(Psychic.)
With the blessing of the Psychic Terrain, the speed of Alakazam's energy accumulation was terrifyingly fast.
Before Volcarona could unleash the fire, a wave of tangible, purple mental force blasted across the arena.
BOOM!
"Om...!"
Volcarona was knocked back dozens of meters.
Already at half health from the Future Sight in the previous round, and now suffering from criplingly low Special Defense due to Wonder Room, Volcarona couldn't withstand the blow.
The pure energy of the Mega Evolved Pokémon smashed through its defenses. Volcarona collapsed, the gathered flames dissipating into smoke.
"Volcarona is unable to battle!"
The second round was over. Alder's Ace had fallen.
Diantha watched the display with wide eyes.
"Beautiful tactics!" she exclaimed.
"First, she used Espeon to set up Psychic Terrain and Light Screen while tagging Volcarona with Future Sight. She traded Espeon's health to weaken Alder's ace."
"Then, she brought in Mega Alakazam and used Wonder Room to invert the defense stats, neutralizing Alder's physical counter-attack and exposing Volcarona's weak point."
"The coordination of the entire strategy flowed like water," Diantha praised.
"It seems Sabrina had this match scripted from the very first move."
Sam nodded, agreeing with Diantha's assessment.
"Psychic-type specialists are often underestimated," Sam analyzed.
"Compared to Weather Teams (Rain, Sun, Sand), which rely on raw power boosts, Psychic tactics are about controlling the rules of the game."
"With Psychic Terrain blocking priority moves, Light Screen reducing damage, and Wonder Room flipping defenses... Sabrina is controlling the rhythm completely."
Sam looked down at the arena.
"Alder has lost Volcarona. The biggest threat is gone. Basically... the outcome is set."
Cynthia looked at the cold, purple-haired woman commanding the field. She narrowed her eyes.
"Sabrina is going to win," Cynthia stated faintly.
With Sabrina taking a massive lead, the suspense of the battle gradually faded.
Alder fought bravely. He sent out Escavalier and Braviary one after another.
After a fierce struggle, the two of them barely managed to take down the exhausted Mega Alakazam.
But Sabrina wasn't done.
She sent out her next Pokémon: Jynx.
Jynx was fresh, and she was at the mid-tier of the Champion rank.
Alder only had Conkeldurr, Bouffalant, and Druddigon remaining.
His team was battered, and morale was low.
Jynx, utilizing Lovely Kiss and fierce Ice-type attacks, mopped up the remaining resistance.
Finally, the last Pokémon fell.
"Druddigon is unable to battle! The winner is the Challenger, Sabrina!"
Thunderous applause erupted from the audience. History had been witnessed.
Sabrina had won the 6v6 Full Battle.
From this moment on, the position of the Unova Region Champion had a new owner.
Sabrina stood in the center of the arena, the spotlight shining on her. But she didn't smile.
She just looked up toward the VIP box, her eyes seeking one person.
'I did it, Sam.'
