Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

While in an alleyway, a criminal quickly received his just deserts, Lagier was taken by the young man with the hair, whom he discovered was called Terrence, the eldest son of Count Tremmor, to a famous seamstress in the capital, where, on Terrence's orders, Lagier was measured from head to toe, and with those measurements, several suits were brought to him. The seamstress and the workers had the decency not to ask why the young man's clothes were torn and bloodstained.

"I think that suits you well, my friend."

Terrence would say, observing Lagier, who was now dressed as if he were a nobleman from the capital just before going to a party.

"(To be honest... I don't feel like these are my style.)"

In reality, Lagier had no style beyond that of a middle-class commoner. He had the means to afford clothes that weren't torn, but most of the clothes in his wardrobe belonged to his father, so they were 20 years behind in terms of fashion.

"Perfect, we'll take all five."

Terrence said to the seamstress.

"Wait, didn't you say just one?"

Lagier replied, looking at Terrence as if to say, "Isn't that too much?"

Terrence laughed out loud, then replied, wiping the tears from his eyes.

"Do you really think my sister's life is worth only one suit? I would buy your saviour the entire shop, but I don't think you have enough space to carry it all, so it will be five suits and a generous reward of 250 gold arcs."

"(250??)"

Lagier was almost speechless at that. If it weren't for the scholarship he had just received that morning, it would be the most money he had ever seen in his life, But 250 gold arcs were 250 gold arcs. His father had a good salary as a merchant intermediary, and even so, his monthly salary was 100 gold arcs, a fairly respectable amount for a middle-class commoner whose monthly salary was approximately 75 or 80 gold archs.

"If you ever need help, just go see my family. We have a mansion on Solreign Street. I'll make sure they know you. I'll be away for a while. I'm starting academy in a month."

Terrence would say to Lagier, who was now wearing an elegant suit, patting him on the back.

"Academy? I'm also starting academy next month. Which one are you going to?"

"Oh? You're going to academy too? You have a future, my friend. I'm going to the Imperial Larcan Academy. I'm sure you know it."

It turned out that they were both going to the same academy.

"Larcan? Of course, I'm going there too."

Lagier said proudly, raising his head.

"Really? Larcan? You're not joking? Oooh... now I understand... you're one of the scholarship students!"

Terrance replied, somewhat impressed. The names of the commoners with scholarships were not public knowledge, so only the Larcan administrators knew their names, but among the nobles, they had become somewhat popular because this was the year with the most commoners with scholarships, 10 in total, when the usual number was only 2 or 3.

"That's right, so... I guess we'll see each other on the trip to Larcan, because I have to go. I told my mother I wouldn't be away for long, and in the end I got distracted..."

Lagier would say, watching the sun set through the window.

"You're right, it's getting late, I should go back too, my sister and the guards must be waiting in the carriage, come, accompany me, I have to give you the money,"

Terrence would say, motioning for Lagier to follow him, who was carrying a couple of bags of clothes in his arms. They went to the street where the Tremmor family's knights were waiting for them in the carriage. Terrence's little sister, Lisa, was there waiting to thank him.

"Thank you very much, sir. If it weren't for you, those bad men would have hurt me badly, so this is the least we can give you."

Little Lisa would say with a grateful smile, grabbing a bag of coins from inside the carriage and giving it to Lagier.

"See you next month, Lagier!"

Terrence said, waving goodbye to Lagier through the carriage window as it drove away. Lagier waved back and returned home.

"Lagier! Why are you back so... What happened to you? Why are you wearing those clothes? Is that money?"

Miriam asked, somewhat concerned, seeing Lagier in such expensive clothes and also seeing the bag of money.

"Well... I got into a fight... I saved the only daughter of a count, and her brother gave me all this as a reward... plus I made a friend."

Lagier said with a tired smile. Nothing appealed to him more than lying down on his bed. His hands were shaking a little. After all, thinking back on what had happened, it was his first real battle, in which his life was in danger. It was going to be the first of many.
