Chapter 57: The Written Exam Ends
Knock... knock... knock...
Early in the morning, Kyosuke's door was pounded on.
"Hey~ Kyosuke, wake up! Isn't today the first day of the Chunin Exams?" Along with the urgent knocking, Nagisa's shouting also reached Kyosuke's ears.
"Aaargh!!!" Kyosuke screamed into his pillow, then got up with a look of utter despair, opened the door, and went to wash his face.
Nagisa, seeing his state, giggled to herself, then said righteously, "Grandpa specifically told me to wake you up early yesterday. He was afraid you, the big lazy pig, would oversleep."
"Heh heh." Kyosuke silently rolled his eyes, indicating that he had no desire to engage with her.
"Haha." This time, Nagisa finally burst out laughing. Seeing his dejected look, she took out a few steaming hot buns. "Here, I brought you breakfast."
"At least you have some conscience," Kyosuke said, taking the buns and sitting down on a stool to eat.
After breakfast, Kyosuke prepared to head to the venue for the first exam. Although it was still early, it was never a bad thing to prepare in advance.
And so, with Nagisa's cheers echoing in his ears, Kyosuke set off for today's exam hall.
The procedure for this Chunin Exam was basically the same as in the original story.
First, there was a written test, followed by a team-based battle in the "Forest of Death." The surviving teams would then compete in 1-on-1 matches to determine the final champion.
In Kyosuke's opinion, the first two exams were just for show. The real main event was the final battle.
However, to defeat so many strong opponents in 1-on-1 matches, to be honest, Kyosuke felt a bit of pressure.
I'll take it one step at a time, he thought, stopping his train of thought as he looked at the written exam venue before him.
After walking into the exam classroom, Kyosuke found that besides Konoha and some of the other smaller ninja villages, the teams from the four great nations had basically all arrived.
His gaze swept across the room, and several famous characters from the original story came into view.
In the corner, ignoring everyone and fiddling with his puppets, was Sasori.
The simple-faced Akatsuchi, chatting with his teammates.
The lethargic-looking Darui, who seemed to have just woken up.
Yugito Nī, fiddling with her long, waist-length, wheat-blond braided pigtails.
Samui, with her short blonde hair, reading a book.
Mei Terumī, who was constantly sizing up all the male comrades present.
The meditating Ao.
And Kisame Hoshigaki, whose gaze frequently turned toward Yugito.
Kyosuke took in the state of all these people in an instant.
As he was observing them, they were also observing him.
After all, for Konoha to dare to hold a five-village joint Chunin Exam, they must have the confidence to win.
And according to intelligence, this young man before them was Konoha's greatest source of confidence.
So, no matter what the others were doing before, at this moment, they all focused their gazes on Kyosuke.
Kyosuke met their gazes with a slight smile and then walked toward an empty seat.
Just as he was about to sit down, the chair made a crack sound and then instantly shattered into pieces.
Naturally, Kyosuke's plan to sit down was thwarted.
This scene was also witnessed by the candidates from the other ninja villages.
They exchanged glances, all wearing a look of schadenfreude as they watched the situation unfold with great interest.
"Heh."
Just then, a black-haired boy sitting in the back row let out a slightly mocking chuckle.
Kyosuke turned to look. The boy was the participant from the Sand Village, Kuro.
Seeing Kyosuke's gaze turn toward him, Kuro did not flinch. Instead, he raised a finger and drew it across his neck.
"Heh heh." Seeing this, Kyosuke also let out a cold laugh.
Then, with a slight circulation of his chakra, he suddenly activated his Sharingan.
Instantly, a dark and cold aura erupted from him, filling the entire classroom before rushing toward Kuro.
As for Kuro, after meeting Kyosuke's gaze, he sat there motionless, as if he had been hit by a petrifying spell. He had, of course, been caught in Kyosuke's genjutsu.
Just as Kyosuke was thinking about how to teach him a lesson, something unexpected happened.
A violent chakra wave suddenly rose from the Sand ninja named Kuro.
At the same time, he coldly uttered, "Seven Heavens Breathing Method, First Gate, Open!"
Instantly, the Sand ninja had somehow successfully broken free from Kyosuke's genjutsu.
Seven Heavens Breathing Method? I think I've heard that somewhere before, Kyosuke thought, frowning at the now-free Kuro, while trying to recall the origin of this technique.
But no matter how hard he thought, he couldn't remember where it came from. In the end, he had to put the matter aside for now.
Just as Kyosuke was about to step forward and teach him a lesson directly, a commanding voice suddenly echoed through the classroom.
"Everyone, silence. Return to your seats."
Kyosuke looked back and saw an Anbu with a mask standing on the podium.
As expected of a five-village joint exam. Even the proctors are Anbu, Kyosuke thought to himself after finding a new seat. He then glanced at the many Anbu who had appeared in the classroom at some unknown time.
At the same time, seeing the Anbu appear, the Sand ninja Kuro could only helplessly disperse his chakra. He shot a vicious glare at Kyosuke's back and then sat down as well.
Feeling the undisguised killing intent from behind him, Kyosuke sneered inwardly and then paid him no more mind.
In the short time that their conflict had erupted, the other candidates had also arrived one after another.
Finally, with the sudden closing of the classroom door, the first written exam officially began.
Then, the lead Anbu began to explain the rules of the first exam.
Overall, the content of this exam was still Konoha's usual routine.
That is, the proctors would not stop the Genin from cheating; they would even encourage it. But the premise was that your cheating method couldn't be too low-level, or you would still be disqualified.
Of course, this time, even if you were caught, only that Genin would be eliminated. There was no such thing as joint responsibility like in the original story.
Similarly, the legendary tenth question did not exist.
After all, the ninja from the five great nations were all present, and they were all elite ninja. After some consideration, the Konoha leadership had decided not to bring out that intimidating gimmick to embarrass themselves.
