Chapter 33: Teaching Sasuke
"Seriously, what time is it? Kakashi-sensei is late again," a pink-haired girl said with a look of exasperation, standing at the main gate of Konoha.
"Hmph," a cool-faced boy beside her grunted, also expressing his indignation.
Next to them, a middle-aged man in a conical hat silently wiped the sweat from his forehead, but he could only wait helplessly. After all, the man had his own secrets and was in no position to rush them.
These three were, of course, Sakura, Sasuke, and their client, Tazuna.
After a while, a tall figure finally arrived.
Just as Sakura was about to question him, a smaller figure suddenly appeared from the side, smiling at the three of them.
Seeing this, Sakura swallowed the words that were about to escape her lips. Although she often complained about Kakashi's tardiness in private, she knew to save face for her teacher when outsiders were present...
The newcomers were the sauntering Kakashi and... Kyosuke, who had replaced Naruto.
"Oh, everyone's here already. I was just..." Kakashi was about to make an excuse for his lateness when Tazuna suddenly interrupted him.
"Finally! Let's get going," Tazuna said impatiently.
"Wait a minute, Naruto isn't here yet," Sakura said, looking off into the distance, hoping to see that familiar orange figure.
Unfortunately, her hopes were destined to be dashed.
"Ahem, well, Naruto couldn't make it this time due to some other business. This is Kyosuke, who will be replacing him on this mission. Everyone, please get acquainted," Kakashi said, his dead-fish eyes looking at the group. He then turned and introduced Kyosuke.
Wow, does the system have to make the arrangements so plausible? Kyosuke thought with a sense of wonder.
He then had no choice but to step forward and introduce himself to the "NPCs."
After he finished, everyone except Kakashi turned their gazes to a slightly stunned Sasuke.
"You... you're also an Uchiha..." Sasuke stared blankly at Kyosuke for a moment, then asked with a stammer.
"Alright, we can talk on the way. It's getting late," Kakashi said, cutting off Sasuke's question. He then announced their departure.
"I see."
Kakashi explained Kyosuke's "origin" to everyone, and they all finally understood.
Apparently, Kyosuke's identity had been arranged as a long-lost Uchiha clansman who had only recently returned to Konoha.
Hearing this, Kyosuke could only twitch his lips and nod in agreement.
Sasuke looked at him silently after hearing the explanation, his mouth slightly open. But after a moment's thought, he closed it and continued on his way in silence.
But Kyosuke had no intention of "letting him off the hook."
"Your Sharingan... you haven't awakened it yet?" Kyosuke asked with a slight smile, looking at him.
"...No," Sasuke replied without turning his head. Then he suddenly stopped, turned, and looked at Kyosuke with a hint of surprise.
What met his eyes was a pair of crimson orbs.
"You!!!" Sasuke stared at him blankly for a moment, then his breathing suddenly became heavy.
Damn it, how old is he? He's already awakened the Sharingan, and I... The more Sasuke thought about it, the more agitated he became, his fists clenched tightly.
Kyosuke, of course, knew why he was so agitated. It was because he had thought of his brother again.
That brother-betraying Itachi, Kyosuke sighed to himself. He then whispered something to Sasuke.
"Alright, I'll try it." After listening, Sasuke took a deep breath and then, following Kyosuke's instructions, began to circulate his chakra.
With a slight tingling and stinging sensation, Sasuke felt his vision suddenly clear.
He stood there for a moment, then instinctively touched his eyes... and let out a low, somewhat unsettling chuckle.
"Sasuke-kun, what did you say to him?!" Sakura looked at the somewhat unfamiliar Sasuke with a horrified expression, then turned to Kyosuke and demanded angrily.
"Calm down. This is a good thing for him," Kyosuke said coolly, then paid her no more mind.
After venting some of his long-suppressed emotions, Sasuke finally lifted his head. From his expression, it seemed he had calmed down.
Similarly, he ignored the chattering Sakura and instead turned to look at the smiling Kyosuke.
Sasuke thought for a moment, then awkwardly said, "Thanks."
He then quickened his pace and walked ahead, his head bowed in thought.
Beside them, Kakashi had been silently observing, not interfering with Kyosuke's actions.
Perhaps in his opinion, it was a good thing for Sasuke to awaken his Sharingan. After all, he himself was not very familiar with some of the basic "operations" of the Sharingan, so he couldn't guide Sasuke in that regard.
Now, this suddenly appeared boy could not only help Sasuke with his "eyes," but perhaps he could even alleviate some of his hatred.
Kakashi's eyes lingered on Kyosuke for a moment before he lowered his head again, returning to his book.
"Kakashi-sensei, what are you reading? Can I take a look?" Kyosuke, bored, decided to tease Kakashi.
However, he still felt a bit awkward with the title. In reality, Kakashi was, like him, a fresh-faced six-year-old boy. Not at all like the lecherous-looking adult he was now.
I wonder what Rin would think if she were alive to see Kakashi now, Kyosuke thought with a touch of malice.
"Ahem, the content of this book is too complex. It's not suitable for you to read right now," Kakashi said with a slight cough, looking a bit embarrassed.
After all, his own subordinates probably knew something about the situation, so they wouldn't point it out. But this new kid had asked such a pointed question right off the bat, which made even Kakashi's old face flush slightly.
"Heh heh." Hearing Kakashi's reply, not only Kyosuke and Sakura but even the somber-faced Sasuke walking ahead couldn't help but turn and give him a disdainful look.
And so, the group continued on its way to the Land of Waves amidst their bickering.
After walking for most of the day, they came to a wide intersection. Kyosuke and Sasuke's expressions suddenly changed slightly.
In this dry weather, two puddles of water had appeared out of nowhere in the middle of the road.
"Idiots," Kyosuke sneered openly. He then looked at Sasuke and said, "Don't you want to try out your newly acquired power?"
Hearing this, a corner of Sasuke's mouth curled up slightly. Without a word, he charged forward.
At this point, even if Zabuza's two subordinates were stupid, they knew they had been exposed.
Although they fought back fiercely after dispelling their transformation jutsu... Sasuke's speed was simply too fast for them.
In a single exchange, the two of them were knocked to the ground by the now much stronger Sasuke.
