Chapter 47: The News Spreads
"Water Release: Wild Water Wave!"
After a quick series of hand seals, Nagisa puffed out her small cheeks and spewed a modest stream of water.
This was a basic Water Release ninjutsu, its power adjustable based on the user's chakra output.
Although Kyosuke himself didn't know this jutsu, that didn't stop him from copying it to tease the little girl.
With a surge of chakra, his Sharingan activated, and his hands formed the same seals as Nagisa's.
"Water Release: Wild Water Wave."
Kyosuke, whose chakra level was already over a thousand, was no match for the current Nagisa. The two streams of water clashed in mid-air for a brief moment before Kyosuke's completely overpowered hers.
Of course, Kyosuke had no intention of hurting her, so he quickly controlled the water to splash onto the ground in front of her.
Seeing the mud splatter, Uchiha Nagisa puffed out her cheeks in anger.
Then, with a mischievous glint in her eyes, she suddenly pulled out a few shuriken and hurled them at Kyosuke. At the same time, she charged forward, clearly intending to engage in close combat.
A corner of Kyosuke's mouth curled up. He casually deflected her shuriken and then watched her with his Sharingan, curious to see what tricks she had up her sleeve.
Clang... clang... clang...
After a round of basic taijutsu, Nagisa suddenly turned her head and, with a deft movement, whipped her long ponytail at Kyosuke.
Tied to the center of the ponytail was a kunai, its edge glinting coldly.
"Ooh!" Kyosuke's gasp of surprise made Nagisa's lips curl into a smile.
Unfortunately for her, Kyosuke had already seen through her move, but he still played along with her surprise attack.
After the fight, Kyosuke held her by her small ponytail with one hand and took the kunai with the other.
With her back to him, Nagisa said, "Hey~ Kyosuke, train with me today."
Kyosuke handed the kunai back to her and asked with a smile, "What's wrong? Why the sudden rush to train?"
Hearing his question, Nagisa lowered her head and was silent for a moment before finally speaking. "I... I want to get revenge for Sister Chiko and everyone else. I want to kill all those horrible Sand ninja."
So that's it, Kyosuke thought, finally relieved that she had let out her long-suppressed feelings.
He reached out and stroked the little girl's hair, saying quietly, "You'll get your chance."
Unfortunately, at that moment, Kyosuke didn't notice the faint red glow that flickered in Nagisa's downcast eyes.
And in that red glow was a hint of... bone-deep hatred.
The morning was spent with Kyosuke's guidance.
By now, the news of Uchiha Kyosuke's public challenge to Hatake Kakashi had spread like wildfire, thanks to the efforts of the Uchiha and Root.
"Kakashi..." Rin and a few other friends, including Kurenai and Asuma, had come to the Hatake compound and found Kakashi training hard.
After respectfully greeting Sakumo Hatake, the kids surrounded Kakashi, bombarding him with questions.
Kakashi, who had been training hard all morning, took this opportunity to rest, even though their chattering was a bit noisy...
"Yo, Kakashi! Youth is about bravely facing any challenge! Are you ready?" Guy shouted with burning passion.
"Kakashi, I got some information from my father. It might be a bit outdated, but I'm sure it will help," said the ever-mature Asuma.
"Not bad, Asuma. Well done," Kurenai praised him lightly.
"Heh heh," Asuma gave a modest smile, exuding an air of maturity...
"Kakashi... do your best. I believe in you," Rin said in a small voice.
Just then, a figure with goggles on his head was peeking into the courtyard, as if hesitating about something.
It was Rin who noticed him first and called him in.
The figure was Uchiha Obito.
"Hmph, it's not like I came here to cheer him on," Obito said awkwardly as he walked in.
"Idiot," Kakashi muttered, turning his head away.
"What? You bastard Kakashi, say that again!" Obito instantly flared up.
"Alright, alright, you two," the other friends began to try and calm them down.
However, although Kakashi wore an expression that said "what a drag," the corner of his mouth beneath his mask couldn't help but curl up slightly.
Sakumo, standing by the window, also watched this scene with a smile.
It seems... Kakashi has made some friends...
I can finally rest easy...
"Hey, have you heard? That little genius from the Uchiha family is issuing another public challenge."
"Uchiha... oh, you mean that kid who used to patrol the streets every day? Haha, I remember him."
"I heard he's challenging that genius from the Hatake family this time. The son of Sakumo Hatake."
"Oh, is that so? It sounds like it's going to be an exciting fight. I have to go see it."
"Of course, I'm planning to go too. But..."
"What's wrong?"
"Hmph, that Sakumo Hatake caused such a huge loss to the village before. I'm not going to cheer for his son."
"Hmm... you're right. Then let's go cheer for that Uchiha kid."
The villagers of Konoha were also eagerly discussing this matter.
After all, public challenges like this were quite rare, so they were all very interested.
Another point was that one of the participants was the son of Sakumo Hatake, who was currently at the center of a storm of controversy.
This made the villagers even more excited.
At this time, in the Hokage Tower, the Third Hokage was also paying close attention to this matter.
"...Has it been confirmed that the Uchiha clan initiated the conflict?" the Third asked with a blank expression.
"Yes, it has been confirmed," replied an Anbu in charge of intelligence.
Uchiha clan, Uchiha Kyosuke, what are you trying to do? the Third wondered, unable to guess their motives.
Suddenly, a figure flashed in his mind.
Danzō... is this you again? The more he thought about it, the more certain he became. He then ordered the Anbu to summon Danzō.
Sigh, your actions are really getting more and more out of hand... the Third muttered to himself, looking out the window at the scenery.
Three days passed in a flash.
"Hey~ Kyosuke, are you confident?" Nagisa asked with a smile, looking at Kyosuke, who was dressed in a black kimono.
"Is that even a question? Just be ready to cheer for my victory," Kyosuke said casually while checking his ninja pouch.
"Hmph, you're just bragging," the little girl said, making a face. She then ran out to meet up with her grandfather and the others.
Today, all the available high-ranking members of the Uchiha clan would be there to cheer for Kyosuke.
Because the matter of Fugaku's Mangekyo was known only to a few, many of the clan members still saw Kyosuke as their hope for revival. So, such a show of support was not surprising.
