Ficool

Chapter 2 - Coffee and Books

The next morning, Clara tried to pretend that she wasn't paying attention to the new bakery. But she kept glancing at the bakery window. The scent of warm bread was already drifting into her bookstore. It was a nice smell to start the day.

Around nine, her own stomach rumbled. But today, she thought about Finn 's coffee. And that amazing croissant.

Clara walked to the door that connected her shop to the outside street. She stepped out and walked the few steps to "Sweet surrender ".

The bakery was bright and busy. Happy music played softly. People chatted. The air smelled even better inside. Finn was behind the counter, laughing with a customer as he handed them a big pastry. He looked comfortable and happy here.

He saw Clara and his smile widened. "Clara! Good morning ".

Clara felt her cheeks warm again, but she smiled back more easily this time. "Good morning, Finn ", she said. That croissant yesterday was amazing. Thank you".

"Ah, the power of a good croissant!" he said, winking. "What can I get you today?"

" Just a small coffee, please", Clara said. "And maybe....one of those lemon tarts? She pointed to a bright yellow tart in the glass case.

"Excellent choice", Finn said. He moved quickly, making her coffee and putting the tart in a small box. "So how are the books this morning "?

"Quiet", Clara said. "Just how I like them".

Finn chuckled. "Can't say the same for pastries. They like to make noise when being eaten". He handed her the coffee and tart.

Their fingers brushed for a moment. It was just a second, but Clara felt a tiny spark.

"Thanks, Finn, she said, picking up her order.

"Anytime, Clara ", he replied, his eyes holding hers for a moment longer than usual. "See you soon".

Clara walked back to her bookstore. The coffees was hot in her hand. The tart smelled sweet. She took a sip of the coffee. It was perfect. She knew she'd be back tomorrow. Maybe even for another croissant.
