The basilisk—such a mysterious and powerful creature—held unimaginable value in every part of its body.
Its incredibly tough skin, like a magical armor gifted by nature, was strong enough to resist magical attacks, making it an ideal material for crafting high-level protective gear.
Its blood was an even rarer and more precious substance. The unique properties of basilisk blood could trigger unbelievable magical effects.
As for its meat, though often overlooked in legends, it was actually a rare delicacy—tender, nutritious, and capable of bringing unexpected benefits to whoever consumed it.
But the most coveted parts of the basilisk were undoubtedly its glowing, mysterious eyes and its razor-sharp venomous fangs.
Its corpse was a goldmine—worth a fortune.
Wes carefully removed the basilisk's eyes, handling them with great caution as if they were the most precious treasures in the world.
He placed them into a specially enchanted container designed to preserve their vitality so they could later be transformed into powerful magical items.
As for the venomous fangs, after some consideration, Wes decided to forge them into a pair of daggers.
It might seem a bit odd for a wizard to use daggers.
But in the multiverse, there were even wizards wielding greatswords in duels with orcs—anything was possible.
Dealing with the basilisk was no small task. Its enormous body made collecting its materials a tremendous challenge.
Sweat covered Wes's forehead, and after several exhausting hours, he finally gathered all the most valuable parts.
By the end, he was soaked in foul-smelling grime.
Once the harvesting was complete, he returned to his dormitory and immediately headed into the bathroom. He took a hot shower, letting the warm water wash away his fatigue and the stench of the day.
He changed into clean clothes, and upon returning to his office, found Dumbledore and Lucius quietly waiting at the door.
"The Ministry folks are gone?" Wes asked softly.
Dumbledore gave a slight nod.
Wes opened the door and invited them inside.
"Hagrid's name can finally be cleared." Dumbledore made himself comfortable on a stool like he was at home, his beard curling slightly with joy.
"Those foolish politicians finally did something right."
While Wes was happy for Hagrid, he couldn't resist taking a jab at Fudge.
"With the basilisk taken care of, the next step is figuring out what to do about the Horcruxes," Wes said, locking eyes with Dumbledore as he raised the next issue.
Dumbledore pulled out the diary and gently placed it on the table.
"Normal weapons and magic can't destroy Horcruxes."
Privately, Dumbledore had already tried several times—each attempt only deepened his understanding of how powerful and troublesome Horcruxes truly were.
"I have something not so ordinary right here."
Without hesitation, Wes drew out the basilisk fang and stabbed it straight into the diary.
With a crisp crack, the sharp fang pierced through it in an instant.
The diary began to burn, emitting black flames that seemed to originate from the depths of hell, radiating an aura of evil.
Tom's phantom appeared and disappeared within the flames, his eyes filled with murderous intent and hatred, as if he wanted to devour the entire room.
However, Wes and Dumbledore remained exceptionally calm.
Lucius, on the other hand, reacted very differently. His body trembled uncontrollably. Although he had already decided to betray Voldemort, the fear rooted deep in his heart still lingered.
With mental strength like that, he wouldn't last a day undercover in Voldemort's ranks before getting exposed.
Lucius's behavior made Wes question whether he was truly up to the task.
His doubtful gaze was too obvious, and Lucius noticed.
"I'm just a bit…" Lucius tried to explain himself, his voice tinged with nervousness.
Wes didn't say much. He simply pulled a ring out of his pocket and tossed it to Lucius.
The ring had an ornate design, inlaid with a sapphire that glowed with a deep, mysterious light. Even someone as picky as Lucius couldn't find a single flaw in it.
"What is this?" Lucius asked in confusion.
"It's a ring that helps you hide your thoughts," Wes explained. "It functions like Occlumency. The way you are now, you wouldn't last a day near Voldemort."
Lucius immediately slipped the ring onto his finger and muttered, "I'm just not used to it yet. Once I—"
Wes didn't call him out. He knew Lucius needed time to adapt to his new role—and to overcome his fear of Voldemort.
"Voldemort surely didn't stop at making just one Horcrux. We need to destroy as many as we can before he returns," Wes continued.
"Exactly. Tom is extremely proud and arrogant. He strives for perfection in everything. That diary, made when he was still a student, clearly doesn't meet his standards of 'perfection,'" Dumbledore added.
As someone who understood Voldemort better than anyone, Dumbledore shared the same opinion as Wes: "He must have created more Horcruxes—and the vessels he used must be worthy of his identity."
Wes's reminder gave Dumbledore some ideas.
But there was no rush. Now that he had Wes on his side, Dumbledore felt a weight lifted from his shoulders and could act with more ease.
"Tom, this time, you won't get another chance."
---
Half a month later, a report in the Daily Prophet caused a stir throughout the wizarding world:
"Shocking!! A Thousand-Year-Old Monster Hidden in Hogwarts!"
"Brave Minister Leads the Charge, Defeats the Basilisk!"
"…"
The paper was full of praise for Cornelius Fudge, painting him as a heroic figure. Meanwhile, the contributions of Dumbledore and Wes were completely ignored.
Worse still, Dumbledore was criticized for being senile—accused of irresponsibly failing to notice such a dangerous creature in his school, thereby endangering the students' safety.
As for Wes—the one who actually defeated the basilisk—his name wasn't mentioned at all.
Many readers were fooled by the news. Some parents even sent howlers to Dumbledore, voicing their anger.
A few even planned to withdraw their children from Hogwarts, fearful of letting them study in such a dangerous environment.
Dumbledore, however, handled all of it with ease, and Wes was deeply impressed by the old headmaster's methods.
No wonder Fudge feared him so much. Even after securing the position of Minister for Magic, Fudge still worried Dumbledore might kick him off his throne at any moment.
After all, when someone has more strength, prestige, and cunning than you—it doesn't matter whether they intend to take your place. What matters is that they could.
Hogwarts became even more lively. Every student was talking about the basilisk and the Chamber of Secrets—it became the hottest topic of conversation.
Their enthusiasm even surpassed that for Quidditch. The once-crowded Quidditch pitch now stood eerily quiet.
Some bold students (mostly Gryffindor lions) even formed teams to hunt for the Chamber of Secrets. Surprisingly, Dumbledore didn't stop them—in fact, he encouraged their exploration.
Now all the young wizards joined in, their curiosity and desire for discovery fully ignited.
The most invested were the Slytherins. If another house found the Chamber of their founder first, they'd be ready to smash their heads into a wall from shame.
However, Dumbledore had secretly relocated the Chamber's entrance to the Headmaster's office.
The students were completely outplayed by the old fox. They searched all over campus but never got close to the real entrance.
Their enthusiasm continued all the way until Christmas.
This year's Christmas was special for Wes—he received an invitation from the Weasley couple.
