Chapter 313 - Chapter 313 I Die

A-Train vanished from his spot, sprinting at maximum speed toward Harley. Right now, the survival of Jason and the entire organization rested solely in his hands.

High above, Thor was already beginning to brew a second lightning strike. With the other Joker members pinned down by their respective opponents, only David was left to stop him.

"HRAAAAAH!"

Looking up at Thor, David took a massive breath and unleashed the most powerful sonic scream he had ever produced since gaining his abilities!

"Ngh..."

Thor's head felt like it was splitting open. His internal organs churned as if a tiny demon had crawled inside him to wreak havoc. Dropping his hammer and clutching his head, Thor plummeted from the sky, hitting the ground with a sickening thud.

Without the guidance of Mjölnir, the thunderclouds dispersed, the lightning receded, and the sky returned to normal. Thor scrambled up, shaking his head violently as the world spun around him.

Suddenly, David was there. Before Thor could regain his senses, another terrifying sonic blast slammed into him, pinning him to the ground. Against the God of Thunder, David didn't dare hold back; he pushed his energy output to the absolute limit, putting his entire soul into every strike.

Unfortunately, this level of intensity was meant for quick assassinations, not prolonged suppression. At this rate, David could only hold out for two minutes!

Time ticked away. David's internal energy reserves plummeted as he maintained the superpower. In less than two minutes, he hit rock bottom, and the potency of the sonic waves began to wither.

Dammit, I'm running out.

David was frantic; it was the first time in his life he felt that two minutes could pass so quickly.

Thor, meanwhile, was in a sorry state. His armor was shattered, his body covered in grime, and blood trickled from his eyes, nose, and ears. To him, those two minutes had been a literal hell, every second dragging like an eternity. However, relying on the legendary resilience of the Aesir, he had endured.

"HAAAH!"

One last sonic wave hit Thor, but this time, he wasn't blown back. He slowly stood up, wiped the blood from his face, and summoned Mjölnir back to his hand. He stared at David in the distance.

His blue eyes had lost their usual calm and gentleness; they were now filled with a murderous rage. This was the most humiliated he had ever been in his life. Not against Loki, not even against Jason, had he been brought this low. This was a stain on his honor, and he would wash it away personally.

"RAAAAGH!"

With a roar, Thor swung his arm back and hurled Mjölnir with everything he had. David stood his ground, mouth slightly open, trying to muster one last scream. But his energy was gone; his throat produced only a distorted, raspy croak.

Heh. It's over.

THWACK!

With a dull thud, Mjölnir struck David square in the chest. He flew back dozens of meters like a kite with a broken string. David collapsed, coughing up blood, every bone in his chest shattered. He tried to push himself up, digging his fingers into the dirt, but his body wouldn't obey.

"AAAAAAH!" David screamed at the sky in pure desperation.

Thor stood at a distance, watching him. A flicker of respect touched his heart. What kind of magic does Jason possess to command such absolute loyalty? There was no answer, but Thor ultimately couldn't bring himself to deliver the killing blow.

He opened his hand, and the hammer flew back to him. Thor raised Mjölnir high. A crack of thunder shook the heavens, and blinding lightning returned to the clouds.

Now, finally, it is over.

Elsewhere, A-Train continued his frantic sprint until he finally found the unconscious Harley in the desert, a hundred kilometers away.

"Harley! Wake up!"

A-Train shouted in her ear, gasping for air. Harley's eyes were closed, her face a deathly pale white. No matter how much he shook her, she didn't respond.

"Fuck!" A-Train cursed, pulling a syringe from his pocket. "I have to use this. Sorry, this is gonna hurt!"

He slammed the needle into her arm and injected the red fluid.

"AAAGH!"

The reaction was instantaneous. Harley jolted awake like she was escaping a nightmare, her pupils blown wide.

"Harley! The Boss's location has been compromised! Go, save him, now!!!" A-Train pointed toward the lightning in the distance, his voice frantic and disjointed.

"I got it!" Harley's brain finished its reboot in a second, and she vanished instantly.

In the underground space beneath the mountains, Christine and Jason remained in their original positions. Nearly twenty-four hours had passed, and neither had closed their eyes.

Christine was at her limit. Her face was haggard, her body frail; she looked like a stiff breeze would knock her over. Most importantly, her energy was almost gone. Without it, she couldn't repair Jason's cells, and within minutes, he would be consumed by the raw power of the Mind Stone.

She looked on with a pained expression. But on an invisible battlefield, after a day and night of struggle, the Stone's essence had been mostly absorbed. The scales of victory were finally tipping toward Jason.

Jason felt a surge of triumph. Three hours. Just give me three more hours.

SHING!

After a series of rapid-fire spatial jumps, Harley suddenly appeared before them.

"Harley!" Christine gasped.

"No time! Explain later!" Harley grabbed Christine's shoulder and teleported them all to an air-raid shelter ten kilometers away.

KRA-KOOM!

The moment they vanished, the lightning Thor had been building finally struck. The earth was obliterated, leaving a crater over a thousand meters deep where they had just been standing.

Inside the air-raid shelter.

Christine's head spun as she swayed on her feet. Harley caught her, worried. "Are you okay?"

Christine's face was ghostly. She looked at Jason and whispered, "I'm okay... but my energy is bottoming out."

"What?!" Harley couldn't believe it. If the energy ran out, Christine wouldn't be able to protect herself, let alone Jason.

Christine asked, "I'm fading... Did you bring it?"

Harley hurriedly pulled a syringe from her pocket. "I have one. Where's yours?"

Christine gave a bitter smile. "Used it up long ago."

Harley bit her lip, saying nothing as she administered the injection. This was the organization's Potential-Triggering Serum. It caused agonizing pain, but it granted the user an explosive burst of power far beyond their normal limits.

After the shot, Christine's state stabilized slightly. Harley still looked concerned. "How much longer can you hold out?"

Christine thought for a moment, her eyes hardening with resolve. "Until the moment I die."
