The long-awaited reunion of Banner and Betty was, needless to say, joyous, but his sudden intrusion had hurt another man.
Betty's current boyfriend, the one left behind at the pizza shop.
Betty's strange behavior made her boyfriend suspicious. He asked the pizza shop owner for details, but the owner claimed to know nothing. The boyfriend grew even more suspicious. Who could it be that both Betty and the owner didn't want him to see?
Suddenly, he remembered a rumor at the university.
Betty's ex-boyfriend had also been a professor, but he was wanted by the military for stealing important experimental data and had become a fugitive!
If it was him, this was serious trouble.
Aiding a fugitive was a federal crime. Betty could go to jail.
His girlfriend's future was at stake; he couldn't be careless.
He immediately dialed Ross's private number and told him about Betty's strange behavior.
His daughter had gone astray and was with a wanted man. Only her father had the power to save her.
When the call connected, Ross was overjoyed.
This "hidden chess piece," buried for half a year, was finally paying off.
If it hadn't been for him pulling strings in the background, how could a simple neurologist have gotten close to Betty in just half a year? Did he really think being handsome meant he could do whatever he wanted?
On the phone, Ross readily promised to immediately send troops to save Betty, assuring him it wouldn't leave a record or affect her future.
But after hanging up, he tore off his good father mask, emergently assembled a special ops team, and flew to Virginia.
......
The next morning, Banner woke up in a separate room.
Although they were once lovers, Banner had left without a word, and they hadn't seen each other in over half a year.
The most crucial point was that, because of his heart-rate problem, he was no different from a woman.
Meaning, he could look and touch, but he couldn't fire the cannon.
After packing, the two left the apartment together. Betty was going to drive Banner to the station.
The sky was just beginning to lighten. The morning campus was filled with birdsong, the scent of flowers, and fresh air.
Betty took a few deep breaths, feeling much more relaxed. She even walked up to Banner and straightened his messy shirt.
Just like before, still so scruffy.
His girlfriend's face was right there, so close he could feel her warmth. Banner's mind began to wander.
But just then, a strong sense of danger washed over him.
"Oh no! They're here!"
"Who?"
Banner didn't answer. He shoved Betty away and dived to the ground.
Pfft! Pfft! Pfft!
A dozen tranquilizer darts hit the spot where he had just been standing.
Banner scrambled to his feet, roaring at Betty, "Go, run! Get away from me!"
With that, he turned and sprinted into the teaching building, planning to use the terrain to escape.
The next second, a dozen military Humvees and hundreds of fully-armed soldiers appeared from all sides, closing in like a giant net.
They had been waiting a long time to capture Banner.
Banner ran wildly through the building, soldiers in hot pursuit, tranquilizer darts constantly flying past. The army had come prepared, with men stationed in multiple corners of the university.
A few minutes later, Banner was cornered on the glass sky bridge connecting the teaching building and the lab.
The iron doors on both sides were locked. Banner was trapped.
He quickly dropped his backpack and stuffed the USB drive with the data into his mouth.
With the Hulk inside him, the soldiers weren't a problem. The most important thing was to protect the drive.
Banner had just swallowed the USB when several gas grenades smashed through the glass and were tossed in.
Ssssss
Thick white smoke filled the space. Banner quickly ripped off his shirt to cover his mouth and nose. As he suffocated, his heart rate began to skyrocket.
Outside the bridge, Ross's troops were all in position, all eyes fixed on the gas-filled glass walkway.
ROAR!!!
Suddenly, a roar came from the bridge, and a green hand pressed against the glass.
CRASH!
The glass shattered, and the Hulk leaped down, roaring at the soldiers before him.
The soldiers, seeing this for the first time, were scared stupid.
Ross, in command, calmly spoke into his comm: "Full assault!"
The soldiers, all battle-hardened, snapped out of their shock, raised their rifles, and fired at the Hulk.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
A rain of 7.62mm bullets from their M16s poured onto the Hulk, but his tough skin deflected every single one.
Seeing this, Ross hit his comm: "Heavy-caliber vehicles!"
The words had barely left his mouth when two Humvees charged forward. Their roofs were mounted with heavy machine guns, a soldier on top of each.
Rat-tat-tat-tat!
The heavy rounds still bounced off Hulk's body, but unlike the rifles, they clearly got a reaction. At the very least, they made him even more angry.
Roar!
Hulk roared and charged at the Humvees. The driver frantically tried to swerve.
Hulk's agility might be poor, but that was all relative. To a clumsy machine like a Humvee, Hulk was an agile, deadly, fat guy.
BANG!
Hulk leaped, smashing both arms onto the Humvee's roof. The military vehicle's tires instantly burst, its entire frame buckling under the load.
With a surge of strength, he tore the Humvee in half, grabbed a tire, and threw it at the other Humvee.
BOOM!
Hulk clearly had a talent for baseball. His casual throw hit the Humvee 100 meters away, instantly totaling it.
The scene fell silent. Hulk, just warming up, had given the young soldiers a lesson.
Rifles and heavy rounds were just an itch to the Hulk. And this was what happened when you scratched an angry Hulk.
The soldiers were terrified, but Ross's expression said, "That was just the appetizer."
He hit the comm and ordered, "Blonsky, you're up."
Ever since receiving the super-soldier serum, Blonsky's speed, strength, and other physical functions had all significantly improved. He was dying for a real fight to test his new abilities.
Raising a grenade launcher, Blonsky strode toward the Hulk.
BOOM!
A grenade hit Hulk's back, exploding in a cloud of black smoke.
Hulk turned, swinging his fist, ready to smash this tiny ambusher into paste.
But Blonsky did a perfect standing backflip, dodging the attack, and shot him in the head with the launcher.
"My God, he really is stronger," Ross marveled.
The super-soldier serum was, after all, a WWII-era product. He hadn't been sure if it had expired. It seemed to work just fine.
Relying on his superhuman agility, Blonsky repeatedly dodged Hulk's attacks, even managing to get in a few shots of his own.
The surrounding soldiers and the students who had gathered to watch all stared, wide-eyed, gasping. A human was going toe-to-toe with a monster that could tear cars apart.
However, the Hulk being Hulk. As his rage intensified, his attack speed increased, and Blonsky was gradually put on the defensive.
"Blonsky, lead him to the sonic cannons!"
Ross shouted, finally playing his trump card.
Hearing the order, Blonsky immediately dropped his weapon and ran toward the pre-set trap. Hulk, thoroughly enraged, wasn't about to let him go.
The two of them, one chasing the other, sprinted across campus at a speed that would have shamed Usain Bolt.
At the ambush point, two Humvees equipped with sonic cannons were ready, just waiting for their prey.
"Now! Fire!"
At Ross's command, the sonic cannons activated at full power.
Two invisible sonic waves washed over the area.
Blonsky, in the lead, was hit first. He was sent flying, luckily landing just outside the attack's main range.
But Hulk was hit full-on. He slowed from a run to a walk, then stopped, and finally, he knelt, in agony.
He couldn't hear. His ears were ringing, his head throbbed, and his bones and organs vibrated, sapping all his strength.
"Great, it's working!"
Seeing Hulk on his knees, Ross was ecstatic.
"Enough! Stop it!"
Just then, Betty ran forward but was blocked by soldiers. "Stop! You'll kill him!"
Ross, irritated, waved his hand. "Get her out of here."
He didn't want to waste a single word on explanations.
Stupid girl. You can't see the future.
Once I capture the Hulk and extract his serum, I'll hold the key to the next world war. I will be the one to redefine the world's future.
On the brink of success, no one, no matter who they are, will stop me.
The soldiers roughly dragged Betty away. She was powerless, screaming in despair at the fallen Hulk: "Bruce! Bruce..."
The sound that reached Hulk's ears was completely distorted by the sonic cannons, but somehow, he knew someone was calling him.
THUD!
He slammed both fists on the ground, slowly pushing his massive body up. Hulk bent his knees, gathered his strength, and leaped.
BOOM!
He came down from the sky and flattened one of the sonic Humvees with his ass.
Without the sonic cannons, Hulk's mind and strength returned.
He ripped a piece of metal from the wreck, and with a single powerful throw, sliced the other sonic vehicle in two.
Their final trump card was destroyed. The military's morale plummeted.
Ross was bitter, but he had no choice but to order a retreat.
Just then, a figure swaggered up to the Hulk.
Everyone looked. It was Blonsky.
"Hey, big guy. Is that all you got?"
Blonsky took a boxer's stance, his words dripping with provocation.
"Is he going to fight him hand-to-hand?"
"God, the guy's insane!"
"Blonsky, get back! We're retreating!"
"He was holding his own before, maybe he has a chance to beat..."
Before the soldier could finish, Hulk kicked Blonsky, sending him flying dozens of meters into a large tree.
