Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: The Isolated Haruno Sakura – Meeting Kakashi for the First Time

Soon, all the team announcements were done.

Since their jonin instructors wouldn't arrive until the afternoon, Iruka dismissed everyone for now.

To make sure they wouldn't miss the afternoon meeting, most of the students brought lunch and stayed around the school to eat.

Naruto didn't bring a lunch, so he had to go to Konohamaru's place to mooch a meal.

Anyway, Kakashi would be late, so Naruto wasn't worried about missing the first meeting with their teacher.

As soon as Naruto stepped out of the school gate, he saw a weird "rock" with legs by the entrance.

"..."

"Konohamaru, come out."

"I knew it! You saw through it again, big bro!"

Naruto rolled his eyes, "Don't use that jutsu anymore."

"Why not?"

"It's too lame. Doesn't suit someone like you."

"I see!"

Konohamaru suddenly understood and quietly decided that Invisibility Jutsu must be a low-level technique.

"Come on, let's eat."

"Yes, big bro!"

Back at the Sarutobi residence, the way people looked at Naruto hadn't changed—they still clearly disliked him.

"Young Master Konohamaru, lunch is ready."

Sarutobi Magpie spoke respectfully to Konohamaru, completely ignoring Naruto as he led them into the dining room.

Naruto didn't care at all and shamelessly enjoyed another big lunch.

"Big bro Naruto, what was that jutsu you used this morning?" Konohamaru asked after the meal.

"Hmm... Light Style: Yata no Kagami."

"Light Style: Yata no Kagami? That sounds so cool! Can I learn it?"

Naruto shook his head and formed a ball of laser light on his fingertip. "Unless you can feel the power of light and become light yourself, you can't learn this jutsu."

"The power of light?"

Konohamaru leaned in to try and get a closer look at the laser in Naruto's hand, but Naruto made it disappear right away.

"Don't get too close. It's dangerous."

"Oh~"

Konohamaru looked a little disappointed.

Even though he knew he couldn't learn it, he still wanted to ask again just to be sure.

Big bro Naruto knew so many amazing jutsu—if he could just learn one, that would be great!

Naruto could tell Konohamaru was a little down, but he didn't have a solution.

If it were possible for Konohamaru to learn, he wouldn't mind teaching him a move or two in the future.

But sadly, that just wasn't going to happen.

Naruto checked the time.

There was still some left before the afternoon meeting, so he took Konohamaru outside to keep practicing the Sexy Jutsu.

He figured this was a way to make up for hurting the kid's feelings earlier.

In the afternoon,

Naruto returned to the classroom.

Because of classroom shuffling, each team had to sit together.

That meant he had to sit next to little Sakura and Sasuke.

He looked at the two of them. They looked at him too. The three of them exchanged glances, but no one said a word.

Compared to the laughter and chatting in other teams, Team 7 felt especially quiet and awkward.

After a while, little Sakura tried to talk to Sasuke, but Sasuke completely ignored her.

She looked crushed.

She turned away and glanced at Naruto's emotionless face, muttering under her breath:

"Annoying guy... why are you copying Sasuke's look?"

Naruto heard her, but he didn't even look at her, let alone respond.

Just like that, little Sakura ended up being quietly ignored by both of her teammates.

At that moment, a jonin with slanted bangs walked in and took one of the teams away.

His appearance caused the rest of the students to start talking excitedly.

Sakura also wanted to talk to Sasuke, so she mumbled to herself,

"I wonder what our team leader will be like."

...

...A crow flew past~

Sakura waited a long time, but Sasuke didn't reply.

Even Naruto, who was sitting right there, didn't respond either.

What the heck?!

What's going on?

Why isn't even Naruto, that annoying loudmouth, saying anything now?

He's usually the talkative one!

An annoyed Sakura turned to Naruto and said, "Naruto, how did you even graduate? You couldn't even do a Clone Jutsu!"

Faced with Sakura's sudden outburst, Naruto frowned and looked at her coldly. "What's it got to do with you?"

"???"

Sakura clearly didn't expect Naruto to curse at her.

Wasn't he the one who used to chase after her like a lovesick puppy?

She slammed the table, furious. "Naruto, what's your problem?"

Luckily, the other students had already been taken away by their squad leaders. Otherwise, her outburst would've drawn everyone's attention.

"If you're that bored, go bother someone else. Don't come bothering me," Naruto said, looking at Sakura with an annoyed face.

Hearing that, Sasuke glanced at Naruto with a slight frown.

"Damn it, Naruto! I'm gonna teach you a lesson today!"

Sakura's face turned bright red, and she clenched her fists, ready to hit Naruto.

But just before she could swing, the classroom door opened, and a man wearing a face mask and a forehead protector that covered his left eye walked in.

"Well, well, did I come at a bad time?"

Seeing that their squad leader had arrived, Sakura quickly dropped her fists and forced a smile. "We were just joking around."

"Joking?"

Kakashi looked at Sakura, then at Naruto and Sasuke.

"Hmm... what can I say? My first impression of you guys—

is not great."

Sakura's smile dropped instantly.

Even Sasuke closed his eyes like he was a bit bothered.

Only Naruto remained completely unfazed, staring back at Kakashi with a blank expression.

Kakashi took note of everyone's reaction and gave Naruto a slightly longer look.

"Oh well. Hokage-sama assigned you three to me, so it is what it is. Follow me."

Kakashi looked reluctant but led the three of them to the school's training field.

"Let's start with introductions." Kakashi leaned casually against the railing and said to the three.

"What are we supposed to say in an introduction?" Sakura asked, raising her hand.

"Things like what you like, what you don't like, your dreams for the future, your hobbies... that kind of stuff," Kakashi replied.

"Then how about you go first, sensei? We don't even know your name yet," Sakura said again.

"Me?"

Pointing at himself, Kakashi said, "I'm Hatake Kakashi. As for what I like or don't like… I don't really want to tell you.

As for my dreams…"

He suddenly looked up at the sky and skipped the topic. "I have a lot of hobbies."

"So basically, all he told us was his name," Sakura muttered with an annoyed face.

Kakashi ignored her and looked at the group. "Alright, you guys go next. Let's start with... you."

"Me?"
