Chapter 30 - Chapter 30: Windchaser Is Cheating

[Daydreamer] didn't notice [Overlord]'s reaction. He quickly walked up to the group and asked, "What happened? Why did you all die one after another?"

All the regular players, other guild members, and [EarlyToBed] around the respawn point turned to look, staying quiet so they could hear the answer.

After a long moment, one of the Coffin Guild players finally spoke, his voice trembling and broken:

"It—it was [Windchaser]!"

"He's hunting us down!"

Hunting?

Hearing this word, [Daydreamer] was stunned for a second, then pressed, "Tell me more. [Windchaser] isn't even that high level. How could he kill all of you?"

The player took a few deep breaths, trying to stay calm, but his eyes were still full of fear. He answered:

"I don't know either. That guy was like a ghost, hunting us one by one."

"At first, I split up with the others to search a wider area, but when any of us ran into [Windchaser], we couldn't beat him at all."

"After a few of us died, we tried sticking together, but... but..."

He paused, his face twisting in pain, then continued:

"But [Windchaser] always found our weak spots. He would even pretend to be out of stamina or badly hurt, just to lure us in."

"A few of our guys couldn't resist the bait and broke away from the group. Every single one of them got killed by [Windchaser]—no exceptions."

"In the end, when we tried to run, it was already too late."

After hearing this, [Overlord]'s legs went weak. He stumbled back two steps, almost falling over.

Total wipeout!

Not a single member who went into the sewer map made it out alive this time!

Coffin Guild had just suffered heavy losses at the Frostspire Tower boss. They barely had time to recover, and now something like this happened again.

Two big setbacks in a short time were enough to drag [Overlord]'s Coffin Guild—from a top guild he spent so much effort and money building—down to just an ordinary guild.

And that was only because Coffin Guild was a level-two guild with a lot of members. Otherwise, things would have been even worse!

But after [Windchaser]'s attack, it wouldn't be long before some members wanted to quit. When that happened, Coffin Guild would get even weaker.

Was all this really just because they messed with [Windchaser]?

[Overlord] shook his head hard, biting his lip so hard that blood started to drip from the corner of his mouth.

The regular players watching at respawn point 9527 stayed totally silent the whole time, listening closely.

But as soon as the Coffin Guild players finished telling their story, the area around respawn point 9527 exploded with noise. Tons of players started talking at once:

"Damn, is [Windchaser] really that strong?"

"No way, it sounds like some crazy story! How could one player kill so many people from Coffin Guild?"

"Maybe [Windchaser] is a pro gamer or something?"

"Not necessarily. Dawnfall Online is totally different from other games. It feels so real that a lot of pro players actually can't get used to it."

"Anyway, [Windchaser] is doing us a favor in the 9527 safe zone! Coffin Guild has been bullying people for ages. I've had enough of them."

"Don't you think [Windchaser] was a bit too ruthless, killing so many Coffin Guild players?"

There were a lot of regular players, so of course a few thought [Windchaser] had gone too far.

But right away, a hot-tempered player cursed back, "Screw you! Wait until you get bullied like that, then tell me who's being cruel!"

"If someone slaps your right cheek, are you just gonna stick out your left one too?"

...

The Guild Leader of Winter Guild listened to the players chatting around her. She kept her head down, typing messages on her watch and sending them to [Lucas].

[EarlyToBed]: [Lucas, do you know who this Windchaser really is? There aren't any top pro gamers in Dolren City.]

[Lucas]: [What happened? I just logged in.]

[EarlyToBed]: [You'll find out soon enough. Lucas, you know your sis has always been good to you. If you get the chance, can you introduce me to Windchaser?]

[Lucas]: [Serena, I'll try, but you know how experts usually have… unique personalities.]

After replying to Serena, [Lucas] quickly started asking around to figure out what was going on.

He stood there in shock, mouth wide open as he read the info on his watch. He mumbled, "One person took down that many Coffin Guild players? That's insane."

"A hidden class, hidden guild quest info, and such insane skills too… Is Windchaser actually cheating?"

In real life, [Lucas] was rich and had seen all kinds of crazy things—celebrity scandals, political drama—but nothing had ever shocked him like what Windchaser just did.

He quickly messaged [Windchaser].

[Lucas]: [Windchaser, how much do I have to pay to get cheats in Dawnfall Online? Name your price and I'll send it right now!]

[Windchaser]: [???]

[Lucas]: [Haha, just kidding, man. Ethan how did you manage to kill so many Coffin Guild players?]

[Windchaser]: [With a knife.]

[Lucas]: […]

Ethan just replied briefly, then muted [Lucas]'s messages.

This guy sure talks a lot.

When Ethan looked up again, he noticed two people staring right at him.

[Tank] and [Kayla] were both staring at Ethan with pure admiration in their eyes. Words couldn't describe how shocked they felt—they had witnessed the whole thing from start to finish.

Those Coffin Guild players, who were always so arrogant and bossy, had almost ended up begging [Windchaser] for mercy just now. But [Windchaser] stayed calm and his knife was fast. Not a single Coffin Guild player made it out of the sewers alive.

Hunting down all those Coffin Guild players took a lot of time, but [Tank] didn't mind at all. In fact, he was over the moon—he felt like he'd hit the jackpot!

He never imagined [Windchaser] would be this strong, way beyond anything he'd expected.

Now, not only was the rest of their adventure much safer, but [Tank] had also made friends with [Windchaser]. As long as he kept in touch, he'd have a powerful ally on his side.

Spending those 100,000 credits was totally worth it!

Compared to the secretly excited [Tank], [Kayla] was more focused on Ethan's wounds.

Even though Ethan was now level 10, with five more stat points than most players and some great gear, he couldn't avoid getting hurt when fighting so many Coffin Guild players at once.

But Ethan's face stayed calm the whole time. Even with a gas mask covering him, [Kayla] could tell he was completely unfazed by pain, as if it didn't bother him at all.

[Kayla] was especially sensitive about this because she was terrified of pain herself. So she asked carefully:

"[Windchaser], are you okay? Those wounds…"

Ethan glanced at his injuries and answered calmly, "I'm fine. You get used to it, and then it doesn't hurt anymore."

Then he started checking the loot he got from killing the Coffin Guild players.

This haul wasn't as good as last time in the third basement of Frostspire Tower.

Maybe it was because a lot of the high-level Coffin Guild players had already dropped their weapons and items when they died before.

By now, Ethan didn't care about white-quality weapons, gear, or items at all. He just dumped them in his storage, planning to sell all this junk to [Lucas] as soon as he got the chance.

As players leveled up and explored more of Dawnfall Online, white-quality stuff would only get cheaper. Ethan knew he had to sell it off quickly, before it lost all its value.

Ethan looked through everything carefully and actually found a few pretty good items.
