Chapter 37 - Watcher

The group was still resting, its been only one hour after the fight, and Rosie remained unconscious, and show no sign of awakening soon.

After all, she was hardely hitted, and while, as the peak stage of the Self Vision realm, she will not die because of that kind of wound, she still need hours to heal enough to be able to walk.

It was already 15 hours, the sun was shining high in the sky, the group was hoping that Rosie will awake before the night, because, while they doesn't really fear anything, as martial artists, there is still some beasts hidden in the darkness of the night, beasts that the city failed to recognize, and they want everything but finding that kind of beasts.

While the human race have the same ability before the Crimson Step realm, beasts and monsters have different one, depending of the races, and, even in the same race, there is a variety of strange ability or power.

There is even a story about a dragon who was able to imitate others race, changing his form as much as he want, it was a terrifying story, because if it was true, that mean that no one is trully trust-worthy. It would not be a problem is the human race was ally with others, but they hunted every different beings, at the point were they become the most hated race.

But despise hoping for the opposite, the group knew that she will not awake at the time, and that they will be forced to stay in the land for the whole night before comming back in Sephoria.

The only things even more dangerous then staying outside in their situation was to moving while being outside, the chance of finding an ominous monster can only increase, and while the chance still remain before ten percent to find one, and less than one percent to find one above the Self Vision realm, none of them want to take the risk.

Sirius was training, at arround one hundred meter away from the rest of the group, colin was resting, Rosie was unconscious, Charlie and Zoe were talking together, Charlie was talking about his sister, how perfect she was and how she was the best sister in the world, Zoe was talking about her forgotten past, seeking Charlie's help to try to find something.

And so time passed.

Elsewhere, in the forest between Sephoria city and the country sized land where the group were resting, a man was standing in the top of a tree, drinking something that seemed to be a wine.

The man was tall, arround two meters, he had a muscular body and a long bear, he was wearing a green hanfu and an immense spear in his back. His black hair, long hair were flying with the wind, and his blue-sapphire eyes were looking carefully at something, something far away.

The man's gaze was on the land, watching a group of young junior killing a beast, not a random beast but a powerful bison, powerful enough to destroy an building with a charge, yet, the juniors managed to kill him, and despise having some of them wounded, all were alive.

But while others will find that win at an achievement, the man was looking at them with nothing but contempt, for him, the group was nothing but disorganised, inexperimented, and, as a battle in five versus one, still managed to get three of them wounded, despise the fact that they had time to prepare.

But the old man wasn't here to judge those juniors, but because of one member of this group, the red haired child. He was informed that the child had a crest of the Virelys family, and wanted to see it by himself, after all, the Virelys family was in the top three of the empire.

He was also here to be sure that the child was safe, not only because he was a honorable guest of the Virelys family, but because of the crest itself.

Any noble crest, and especially the one of very influent family have an spell casted in it, an spell created by someone above the humanity, someone at the lord Boundary, an Oathbound Soul martial artist.

Once the owner of the crest die, a signal is sended to every martial artists at the Crimson Step who accepted to be under the king, or his equal for the Pinnacle martial artists, and they all rushed to be where the crest owner died, to avenge him. Even the king himself can come, depending of the crest.

It was created to maintain the autority of the noble family, to be sure that no one would ever try to kill an honorable guest, no one in the world in strong enough to fight nine hundred Crimson Step martial artists at the same time, not to mention Pinnacle martial artist who are likely to come too.

One need to be at least at the Crimson Step realm to be allowed to kill a crest owner, and he have to ask the king or the first princess before doing it, by respect for the imperial family, and to not trigger the spell in the crest.

It only happened three time in the history of the Ash realm that someone dared to kill a crest owner, someone who was under the Crimson Step realm, but once they did, in less than a four second, an Crimson Step martial artist reached them, and reflected his existence to the world, instantly erasing the whole existence of those fool who are guilty of the greatest sin.

That's why, even though the child is unlikely to die again mere beast, the man was still watching him, and was ready to protect him if needed. It's even more important because of a cult that emerged recently, a cult that venerated a strange, faceless statue, and who use human as sacrifice to honored a "god" that they don't even remember.

And so, the night was comming.
