Chapter 14 - The Musical Immortal?

The Cryo Slime blinked, stared at Xu Zheng for two seconds—and immediately lunged at him.

"Wait, stop!" Xu Zheng shouted.

To his surprise, the slime actually froze in place. Its big, dumb eyeballs spun in confusion.

"…You understood that?"

Xu Zheng tilted his head. Maybe it had some intelligence?

Unfortunately, his words seemed to insult it. The slime shook with fury, then leapt at him again.

Xu Zheng sighed and casually sidestepped.

With a body like jello and a jump speed that screamed "turn-based combat", the slime had zero chance of actually hitting him. Even its overhead leap attacks were easy to dodge with just a bit of footwork.

The only real threat? Its long-range spitballs.

Those could hit if you weren't paying attention.

Xu Zheng retaliated, summoning an ice lotus and chucking it toward the slime.

…A move that would've been impressive—if the slime didn't completely ignore it.

The lotus struck. Nothing happened.

The Cryo Slime stood there, blinking like a dumb puppy. Its beady eyes stared at Xu Zheng, as if asking:

"Did you just scratch me… on purpose?"

"Ah, hell no."

Even before transmigrating, Xu Zheng had beef with this mechanic.

Why the hell are slimes immune to their own element, but my five-star characters get frozen solid?

Did the devs even play their own game?

The Cryo Slime suddenly inflated and fired an ice projectile.

Xu Zheng stepped back, widening the distance between them, and reached for his purple bamboo flute.

Skill activated: Soothing Flute.

Melodic notes rippled through the air, condensing into visible soundwaves. The waves spread outward from Xu Zheng like rings in a pond—until one of them collided with the slime.

BOOM.

The slime exploded into cold goo.

"???"

Xu Zheng blinked.

"…That's it?"

"One shot? Damn. Maybe I'm actually strong!"

Before he could celebrate, a distant rumbling sound made him glance up.

A wave of Cryo Slimes—at least a dozen—came bouncing straight toward him.

One of them was massive, clearly the miniboss of the bunch.

Xu Zheng had no clue where they all came from, but they weren't here to make friends.

Before they even got close, the sky darkened with projectiles—iceballs raining like artillery.

"Ah, shit."

No time for commentary. Xu Zheng dove to the side, narrowly dodging.

His body might be freakishly fit for a toddler, but even that had limits. He zigzagged, slipped between gaps, barely scraping past the first wave.

If this kept up, he'd get smacked.

Desperate, he conjured an ice shield to cover himself.

To his shock—it worked ridiculously well.

Iceball after iceball slammed into the shield with thuds and cracks, but the barrier held.

Even the big slime's attack only made the shield wobble.

Xu Zheng grinned.

"Oh? So now you're just exfoliating me?"

He started reinforcing the shield with more energy, turning it into a near-invincible dome.

The slimes surrounded him, spitting ice and trying overhead smashes, but none of it pierced his defense.

Unlike in the game, his ice shield could be constantly powered up—no cooldowns, no stamina drain.

In theory, they could keep attacking until the sun went down and still fail to scratch him.

Meanwhile, Xu Zheng's energy reserves were overflowing with coconut milk-infused vitality.

Thank you, Master Ganyu.

Yes. He'd definitely drink another fresh, hot bottle tonight.

But he couldn't stay here all day.

"Alright, I'm done playing."

Xu Zheng's expression turned serious. His aura shifted.

He lifted the flute to his lips—and played.

The music slipped past the shield like a ghost. The waves of solidified sound rippled outward, crashing down like ocean breakers.

The nearest slime raised itself to attack… but some primal instinct screamed at it:

"Run."

It didn't get the chance.

BOOM. Instant pulp.

The others, stunned, realized what had happened.

They couldn't think fast—but even these dumb blobs knew when to panic.

The horde scattered, leaping in every direction.

But they'd gotten too close.

The waves swept through them, one after another—

Boom. Boom. Boom.

Goo flew. Slimes burst like overripe fruit.

Somewhere in the chaos, a voice cried out in slime-language:

"I'm splitting apart!!"

Even the huge boss slime roared and charged straight at the wave.

It exploded even harder.

Xu Zheng winced.

"Damn. Rest in pieces."

He paused for half a second of respectful silence.

Then dusted himself off.

"Time to teleport back—wait."

He froze.

There was no teleport waypoint near Ganyu's courtyard.

"…Shit."

Guess he'd have to walk.

He vanished into the trees, just as a patrol of Qingce Militia arrived.

"Something was rumbling over here," one soldier said.

"Look there!"

They pointed at the battlefield.

A sea of slime remains… shattered, scattered, and leaking everywhere.

The soldiers gawked.

"What the hell happened to them?"

"These things weren't just defeated… they were annihilated."

This particular slime mob had been causing trouble for weeks—attacking travelers, flinging iceballs for fun, even threatening lives.

The guards had tried, but that giant slime was too strong for a single patrol.

Until now.

One rookie widened his eyes in awe.

"Maybe… maybe a celestial immortal did this?"

"…A slime immortal?" he added, dumbly.

A senior soldier flicked the back of his head.

"Don't insult the immortals."

Liyue was a land watched over by true Adepti—celestial beings who once fought alongside Morax himself.

Occasionally, immortals would descend to slay beasts or monsters to protect the land.

"I heard flute music before we arrived," someone said. "What if it was a Melodic Immortal?"

Weeks later, the legend of a mysterious new immortal began to spread among the soldiers.

Some people died, but not completely...
