Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: The Ex-Factor

[JASMINE – POV]

Nothing could ruin my mood after that kiss—nothing except him.

"Jasmine?"

That voice. That smooth, cocky, familiar voice.

I turned around slowly and nearly dropped my phone.

Ayo.

Tall, athletic, with that same stupid grin he always wore when he knew he was about to cause trouble. My ex. The only boy who had ever broken my heart and acted like it was no big deal.

"What the hell are you doing here?" I asked, arms crossing tight over my chest.

"Transferred," he said casually, like this wasn't a disaster. "Didn't think I'd find you here too, babe."

"I'm not your babe."

"Still got that fire," he smirked. "Good. I missed that."

I didn't notice Lucas walk up behind me until Ayo's smirk started to fade.

Lucas slid his arm around my waist like he'd done it a thousand times before. "You must be lost, man."

Ayo tilted his head. "And you are?"

"Someone who doesn't let his girl get played twice."

The tension was thick enough to choke on.

But I didn't need either of them to speak for me. I stepped forward.

"I'm not here for drama. Stay in your lane, Ayo. Or I'll put you back in it."

His eyes flickered—surprise, then something colder.

This wasn't over. I could feel it.

[LUCAS – POV]

I didn't like the way he looked at her.

And I didn't like the way Jasmine's hands were trembling, even though she tried to hide it.

Who was this guy? And what the hell did he do to her?

I would find out. And if he hurt her, even once—I'd make sure he regretted stepping foot into Kingston High.
