The fight continued. Facing Orochimaru would be a challenge for anything, let alone fresh genin, even if they were personally trained by Sukuna.
Sakura and Sasuke were effectively out of the battle because of collective injuries and running out of chakra. The only person still going strong was Naruto. Strangely enough, the boy still hadn't broken out of Nine Tails chakra even after getting pushed by the enemy to that extent. Perhaps it was due to how much he had already endured when facing Sukuna.
The only reason they were still alive was because Orochimaru was holding back. He didn't mind killing those genin he had nothing to do with; however, he did abstain from killing because it might cause issues in his future plans.
Under no circumstances could he let the Chunin Exams be canceled. Something like that could happen if many of Konoha's promising genin died. Not to mention, he was dealing with a Jinchuriki if his intel wasn't wrong, and the last thing he wanted was for Naruto to break out of Kuubi's chakra. That would alert the entire village in seconds.
He mused while dodging away a lightning-clad blade from Kiyomi, but just then the chained weapon, which he was certain wasn't chained when she first took it out, changed its swing midway, hitting him on the back, only for Orochimaru to puff out in a cloud of smoke.
Orochimaru appeared a bit further away, licking his tongue with fevered motion. "To use electromagnetism to change the swing direction midway, you're more capable than I thought."
"You don't know half of it." Kiyomi grinned, her eyes rotating with hypnotic speed. Orochimaru quickly had to avert eye contact. Strangely enough, he was a little too prone to genjutsu against this Uchiha girl. Every time he decided to end the match, he found himself under her genjutsu.
Her expertise in genjutsu was quite evident. Still, that didn't explain why he couldn't resist whatsoever.
Was breaking his soul apart really making him so defenseless against genjutsu? Or was there something she was hiding…
Just as Orochimaru averted his eyes, he saw two of Naruto's clones—let's call them Clonutos—drop from above him, Rasengan in hand, drilling into the ground, but it turned out that was a mud clone.
Just as Clonutos seemed to realize that, a bunch of snakes burst out of the ground.
Bursting them, decreasing the ever-decreasing quantities of Clonutos, until he made more, that is. Which the blond certainly was planning to do. However, it was clear that even if he were to make an army of his Clonutos, they wouldn't do shit. This was no Mizuki.
"Shit, almost got him that time." Naruto cursed, watching from further away. This was the reason he wasn't charging in himself. Almost all of his clones were smashed the moment they charged in.
"This guy is way too out of our league." Sasuke knew it too.
"SAKURA—"
"I know, I know." Sakura scowled. She was doing her best to wake Sukuna up, but it wasn't like she had some magic medicine to do that.
Back in the fight, finally Orochimaru was getting annoyed enough to not care about the genin's lives.
He flashed his hands, making hand signs with speed beyond what ordinary eyes could catch, and the following second the very earth seemed to come alive. It shook, and then multiple spikes erected out of the ground toward the kids.
Kiyomi and Karin reacted in time, backing off. However, the fate of the Clonutos wasn't that fortunate. With one move, Orochimaru wiped out the entire clone army and made the two girls annoying him back off.
"Maybe we should reconsider pissing him off further." Sakura muttered to herself from behind them.
Orochimaru, on the other hand, didn't plan to stop. He was done playing around with these kids. He formed more hand signs, and the next technique he used was even more deadly.
He spewed multiple mud bullets from his mouth, directly directed at Karin and Kiyomi.
"Too fast…" The girls' eyes widened like saucers.
At the last moment, Kiyomi, who had no other option, activated her Mangekyo. In an instant, the speed of the incoming projectiles reduced by half.
But the problem still stood. There were too many bullets, and they were too fast. Kiyomi had nothing to stop them, and dodging was almost impossible.
The increased deductive speed granted by her Mangekyo led to only one outcome. She had to block them.
Her left eye seemed to rotate on its own. There was no activation required; her instincts did everything. Her cursed energy shot up, pouring into her eyes while her Mangekyo helped channel it, and the next second something rather incredible took place.
A black dot manifested in front of both girls, and the next second it enlarged itself, turning into a black hole, sucking away at anything and everything.
Karin, who was closest to her, was dumbfounded. Others were confused as well at what had taken place before all the mud bullets got attracted by the black hole.
The next second, Kiyomi felt a stinging pain in her eyes, she quickly covered her face to hide the lingering blood tear she had.
"What?!" Karin remained there, stunned.
Sakura, Sasuke, and Naruto were too far away to see what really took place, not to mention everything happened too fast for them to catch anything, though Sasuke seemed to notice the anomaly.
However, if there was one person who was most interested in what just took place, then it had to be Orochimaru. His eyes gleamed. He perfectly noticed what took place; however, he didn't saw Kiyomi's Mangekyo.
"Seems like you're hiding something there, little girl. Don't you." His long tongue seemed extra long when he licked his lips this time around.
Karin pursed her lips together hard. She had no idea what that was, but undoubtedly, Kiyomi did it.
'Is the girl holding back her true strength…' Karin used to believe that both of them were equal in strength.
'Am I the weakest one in the team.' The thought suddenly shot into Karin's mind and got stuck there.
'No… not possible. I'm pretty strong. No way in hell I'm getting second after that bitch.' She shook her head hard.
Kiyomi couldn't see all that. She seemed to have a terrible headache. Her cursed energy seemed to drop by 20% from that single black hole. She clearly wasn't very used to this technique. In fact, this was only the third time she was using it: first when she showed it to Sukuna, second to test it in secret for herself after Sukuna forbade her from using the Mangekyo entirely until extremely necessary, and now.
And now she might have some idea why he said so. Her eyes felt like they were on fire. It felt like her entire nervous system was burning the moment she used the Mangekyo power.
Orochimaru mused at the reaction she showed. "Perhaps I need to push you a bit further." He smirked.
He then opened his mouth wide, and from it came out thousands of snakes, rushing toward the army of Clonutos and toward Kiyomi and Karin.
Everyone's eyes widened. That was a dangerous attack. An area-wide A-rank jutsu.
"Shit… Sasuke, a little help here." Kiyomi internally cursed and shouted, quickly backing off with Karin.
Sasuke watched the incoming army of snakes and gritted his teeth, hands already forming signs for a powerful Fire Release jutsu, pouring all of his chakra into the attack. But even that might not be enough.
"Fire Style, Fireball Jutsu."
A massive fireball, enlarged as much as Sasuke could manage, to the point that he almost dropped down on his knees, exhausting all the chakra he recovered with that one shot.
It hurtled out toward the snakes, burning them to a crisp. Then it even went further toward the source of the snakes, though it was child's play for the Snake Sannin to dodge it. A gleam appeared on his face, seeing his future vessel's powers.
"Awesome, that did it." Naruto cheered.
"HM… once a dope, always a dope."
"What did you say?"
"Focus, you two. I told you to keep the quarreling aside during fights."
"He started it…"
"He started it."
Both chose to put the blame on each other… But,
"…"
"…"
Everyone's eyes snapped to the person who spoke.
And that was when a terrible murderous aura rose near them, stiffening all three of them while attracting attention from both the girls fighting and even Orochimaru.
"Did I make it in 5 minutes?"
