Chapter 6 - Seraphina's weakness

"Blurgh..." A rainbow colored liquid spilled out from Seraphina's mouth, splattering on the ground and tainting it with its color.

It seemed like the rabbit was indeed poisoned. As for how a rabbit could even be poisonous?

Well, the foolish rabbit had actually eaten the Venomtree's leaves just moments before Seraphina killed and ate it.

When the rainbow finally stopped flowing, a large puddle had formed at Seraphina's feet.

Her skin had now turned noticeably paler due to all the blood she had vomited. She swayed slightly, trying to keep her balance.

If she were to fall now...she would earn a legendary 'rainbow-tier' bath—a truly unforgettable experience.

Seraphina was aggravated, and bit her lips in frustration. But she did not know who to blame for this incident, should she blame the rabbit, the Venomtree or even herself for what happened?

Obviously not her as she was a genius, so she confidently removed herself, the Venomtree was already dead so it couldn't be it. That only left the little rabbit and alas, it too was already dead so she could not even vent on someone.

But regardless, she would vent later as right now was not the time.

Seraphina steadied herself using her khakkhara and quickly staggered away from the mess she had created.

Having walked until it was no longer in sight, right after throwing up had somewhat tired her out.

*Gurgle~*

Her stomach let out a long gurgling sound, Seraphina's face turned red in embarrassment at the improper sound she had just made. It couldn't be helped though, as she had expanded a lot of energy during her fight against the Venomtree. Moreover, she had just thrown up the rabbit who was supposed to be her dinner.

She looked around, wondering what she was going to eat. On nearby trees were round and shining yellow fruits—fruits she disctinctly remembered, as she had eaten them once.

Their name were Sunberries and their almost divine outward appearances coupled with the night's dew made them look irresistible and could make one's mouth water at the sight, which had made her very curious about how they tasted.

Needless to say, that did not end very well.

The Sunberries were not named after their appearances as Seraphina once thought, but after what they would feel like once in your mouth—the sun.

In the forest dominated by the Poisonous Venomtree, nearly everything in it either had a resistance to or was poisonous.

'I'll just eat when I get back to Alequessa...' thought Seraphina, seeing many things she recognised had somewhat appeased her hunger.

Alequessa was Seraphina's hometown. The town was not very far from the forest, at about an hour in carriage

So with a new motivation, Seraphina returned to the task at hand, wanting to finish her quest quickly.

The roots, her quest's objective were obviously too big and numerous to carry. So, she searched her leather pouch and pulled out a small palm-sized transparent box.

That box was an item named the Miniature Box, and anything put inside except living beings would shrink to a thousandth of their original size and their weight would be adjusted accordingly. It was a very popular item in the field, and you could hardly call yourself a real adventurer if you did not own at least one

Since the Poisonous Venomtree had already died, its roots were not considered as alive anymore and would pose to no problem in their storage.

Seraphina knelt and began storing all the plum-colored roots one by one inside her Miniature Box. The process was laborious, as she had to lift each root by hand, due to the Miniature Box only working if its opening was positioned directly beneath each root.

When she was finally done her Miniature Box was no longer transparent but was filled by dozens of tiny little roots.

Storing the roots had taken her longer than she expected. By the time she had finished, the sun was already beginning to rise.

She quickly packed up, carefully sealing her Miniature Box, and putting it back into her leather pouch. With a sigh, she stretched her sore muscles and took out a compass from her pouch, before setting off toward Alequessa.

Seraphina did not exactly remember the path she had taken to get here, but since Alequessa was at the south of the forest, she would naturally get back to town if she went straight south.

As she walked towards the town, she could recognise some familiar landscape as well as sign of someone walking straight north.

When she finally reached the outskirts of the forest, where small and weaker beast lived, the bushes rustled and a wild rabbit appeared before her.

Seraphina paused, she did not have any memory problems, but in fact had an excellent memory. She remembered perfectly what happened a few hours earlier.

The white-colored rabbit looked at her with its big red eyes, its ears were perked up and its little nose twitched cutely, looking adorable.

When she saw that, the mean feelings she had toward this rabbit were swallowed back.

'Right...they aren't even the same rabbit, there's no point in hurting it for another one's mistake.' thought Seraphina, as she unsumommed her gauntlets and reached out to pat its head.

The white rabbit hurried towards her hand and—bit it with all its might.

Blood flew out of her hand and landed on the rabbit dyeing its white fur with an eerie red.

Seraphina's entire body twitched uncontrollably and her feelings of displeasure towards rabbits resurfaced like a geyser.

The last rabbit had escaped through death, but this one would not get away so easily. She would reserve a 'special treatment' for this white rabbit...
