Chapter 27 - Chapter 27

"It's my turn—time to draw a card!"

The pain of missing out on a five-star Servant last time made Kurosawa Ren a little more cautious today.

He first exchanged all 22 Saint Quartz fragments, obtaining three full Saint Quartz in the process.

Then, he opened the summoning pool and initiated a draw.

Buzz!

Buzz!

Buzz!

A sequence of glowing lights danced across the summoning interface, set against the cosmic void. Silver and gold-tinted cards began appearing one after another.

With a radiant rainbow-colored halo and a dramatic, grandiose background track, several cards streamed into the pool all at once.

[Item List]

Gift: Red-Black Key ×3

Gift: Book of the False Minister ×5

Spirit Origin Fragment: Cu Chulainn ×1

Gift: Projection Magic ×1

Gift: Clock Tower ×1

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"

"All ten pulls are silver?!"

Ren's vision went dark. He nearly fainted.

This had to be a joke—again?!

They say if you're stuck in Africa (bad luck), you'll eventually move into Europe (good luck), and then it cycles again... But apparently, he was cursed to stay in Africa forever.

Two full ten-pulls and still no five-star. That's the reality of Fate/Grand Order's summoning system: the more you want a five-star, the more the gacha mocks you.

You're anxious. You grind, you save, you pull—and you're rewarded with pain and despair. At this point, Ren could only slump in defeat and try to salvage something from the mess.

Well, at least he pulled another Cu Chulainn.

He fused the Spirit Origin Fragment without hesitation.

As the fragment shattered, the glowing spiritual stream poured into his body, representing the Servant's legacy.

[Choose Inherited Skill: Battle Continuation or Return to the Beginning?]

"Oh please, that's a no-brainer—'Return to the Beginning.'"

Ren couldn't imagine many scenarios where he'd even be knocked to low health.

"Return to the Beginning" wasn't just a cool-sounding skill. It cleared debuffs and restored a significant amount of vitality—very helpful during fights with demons or monsters.

With that done, he moved on to the rest of the items.

First, Projection Magic had finally been fully maxed out.

When he tapped "Absorb," the skill solidified as an A+ rank ability, boosting his projection powers even further.

Ren started thinking—if he ever collected all Heroic Spirits related to Emiya, could he one day break the rules of the system entirely?

Could he project real god-forged weapons?

If that were possible… then he'd have a skill on par with the Gate of Babylon itself.

As for the Red-Black Key, it wasn't anything too exciting.

After being maxed out (fourth break), it unlocked a bonus skill: Iron Spiral Technique, allowing the keys to be thrown in a spinning trajectory. Not bad, but nothing game-changing.

The next two gifts, however—Book of the False Minister and Clock Tower—were both fully broken and offered very interesting effects.

Gift: Book of the False Minister

As soon as he received it, five Command Seals lit up and were engraved on Ren's wrist.

They looked exactly like in the original: three strokes forming a crest, each stroke representing one absolute command.

And best of all? Even if he used a Command Seal, it would regenerate—one per week.

As the seal's master, Ren could assign them to anyone he wished.

Anyone granted a Command Seal would effectively become his personal familiar—under his command and bound to him.

The effects were potent. For example, if the contracted person was in danger, Ren could instantly consume a Command Seal to teleport to their location and protect them. A feature close to true spatial magic.

Gift: Clock Tower

Item Description:

The true headquarters of the Mage's Association, a foundational institute in the magical world. A prestigious school that has trained countless famous mages.

But beneath its history lies a touch of darkness...

Effect: Unlocks a Training Field Dungeon.

"Ooh... this training field is interesting."

According to the card details, equipping this costume would let Ren access the Clock Tower, one of the most iconic and mysterious locations in magical lore.

The tower itself was empty—no living beings.

But its foundation stretched back a thousand years, filled with an ocean of arcane knowledge and sealed magical theory.

While Ren couldn't bring the books into the real world, he could bring people inside to study with him.

"Nice~~" Ren whistled, feeling much better now.

He had never received formal magical education.

Sure, he had a magical grimoire gift that gave him basic knowledge, but this… this was access to the advanced curriculum.

The Mage's Association divided magic into twelve categories—often referred to as the Twelve Departments of Magecraft:

General Fundamentals

Spirit Evocation

Mineralogy

Zoology

Lineage Studies

Botany

Astronomy

Creation

Cursecraft

Archaeology

Ether Theory

Modern Magecraft Theory

Currently, because the Clock Tower Costume was at 0 Break, only three departments were unlocked:

Cursecraft

General Fundamentals

Spirit Evocation

Of these, General Fundamentals was a mandatory course for all beginner mages.

For anyone serious about mastering magecraft, this was a goldmine.

Riding that high, Ren returned to the summoning screen—ready for another ten-pull.

Europe or Africa, it didn't matter anymore. He was going all in with the quartz he had.

"Let's go!"

Triumphant music erupted once again.

The rainbow light danced through the void.

"Wait—this aura… it's different!"

Ren's heart skipped a beat.

He immediately locked onto the summoning interface, laser-focused.

In FGO, if five colors appear along with flying feathers, it usually means a five-star Servant is incoming.

And he was seeing feathers.

Buzz—!

[Item List]

Gift: Red-Black Key ×1

Gift: Blue-Black Key ×5

Spirit Origin Fragment: Senko Muramasa ×1

Gift: God-Forged Weapon ×1

Gift: Extra Spicy Mapo Tofu ×1

Gift: Soft Kindness ×1

"Yes! YES! Finally got one!!"

After two rounds of pure despair, Ren had finally pulled another five-star!

[Do you want to fuse the Spirit Origin Fragment of "Senko Muramasa"?]

[Yes. Confirm fusion.]

He tapped the screen.

In an instant, his consciousness was pulled from his body into a forge glowing with heat and metal.

CLANG!

CLANG CLANG!!

The hammer rang out endlessly as the scene came into focus.

A red-haired young man stood before a blazing furnace, hammering with full concentration. His muscles rippled with every strike against the anvil.

Bang—!

Sparks exploded into the air with each collision of steel and flame.

Suddenly, as if sensing something, the blacksmith stopped mid-swing.

He turned and looked directly at Ren.

In that single glance, an ocean of spiritual particles surged toward him and flowed into Ren's body.

Then—darkness.

The scene blurred again.

"Well, that one didn't cause as much of a stir as when I first fused with the Old Saber's fragment," Ren muttered.
