Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: The bullet that loved her

Rose's POV

Darkness wrapped around me like a cold blanket.

Every breath hurt.

My shoulder burned, soaked in warm blood.

But beneath all that pain... I heard his voice.

Luca.

He was calling my name—raw, desperate, fighting to reach me.

And for the first time in what felt like forever… I felt hope.

---

Luca's POV

The second Moga raised the pistol to Rose's head, a gunshot echoed from somewhere outside. The whole torture room shuddered.

"What the hell?!" Moga snapped, spinning toward the surveillance screen.

Her eyes widened. "Sh*t! Dubious… that bastard!"

The screen flickered with chaos—his men had breached the gates. Gunfire. Screams. Blood.

Moga cursed and reached for the chain on my neck—maybe to use me as a shield.

Big mistake.

I didn't think. I just hit her—hard, right in the face.

She reeled back, stunned. I tackled her, snatched the key hidden in her skin-tight leather suit, and unlocked the damn chains.

My wrists were torn and bleeding. My knuckles split open.

But I didn't care.

Rose. I had to get to her.

She was slumped in the corner, barely moving, her eyes fluttering.

"Hey... hey, baby. I'm here," I said, kneeling beside her. My hands trembled as I unlocked her shackles.

Her lips moved faintly. I heard her whisper my name.

I wrapped my arms around her, lifting her into my chest. She was so light... too light.

Gunshots cracked outside like a storm.

I carried her behind a fallen cabinet, shielding her fragile body.

BOOM!

A chunk of the wall blew out behind us.

One of Moga's men burst in, eyes wild.

I slammed the cabinet door into his face and stole his rifle. One hit. One drop.

I rushed back to Rose.

"Stay with me. Please, baby, just stay awake."

Her eyes opened just enough to see me.

"Luca… are we leaving?"

Tears stung my eyes.

"Yeah, baby. We're going home."

I scooped her into my arms again and pushed through the crumbling building. Blood. Smoke. Chaos.

When we reached the outer hallway, I froze.

Our men and my father's were in a full-blown shootout. The only way out was a blocked corridor—collapsed bricks, bent steel, like the mouth of a grave.

I laid her down behind a stone wall.

"I have to clear it," I said gently.

She reached for my hand, weak but still holding on.

"Don't… don't leave me…"

I kissed her forehead, holding her gaze. "I'll be back. I swear. The second it's clear, I'll cover you. You run straight to me, okay? I won't leave you behind."

She nodded faintly, trembling.

But as I turned, she pulled me back.

She kissed me—soft, trembling, desperate.

A kiss that said please come back. Please let this not be the last one.

"Promise me," she whispered.

"I promise."

Then I ran.

---

Rose's POV

His silhouette disappeared into smoke and fire.

I couldn't run fast. But I had to try.

I clutched the rifle beside me, forcing my legs to move.

Through the smoke, I saw him—Luca, tearing the last barricade down, waving at me with that smile I loved.

I pushed myself forward.

Limping. Bleeding.

But I ran.

We were close.

Our fingers nearly touched—

CRACK!

Pain. Blinding pain.

The bullet tore through my back and burst out my chest.

"AAAAHHHH!!!" I screamed, collapsing into the dirt.

---

Luca's POV

"NOOOOOOO!!!"

The scream ripped from my soul.

I dropped the rifle.

Dropped everything.

I ran toward her.

But I heard shouting behind me.

"Boss! We need to move! The bombs are ticking—TEN SECONDS!"

They grabbed me.

I fought like a beast.

"LET ME GO!! She's hurt! I HAVE TO GO BACK!"

"Sir! The whole place is going up!!"

They dragged me to the armored car.

I screamed. Kicked. Cursed.

"ROSEEEE!!"

BOOM!!!

The explosion shattered the air.

The building erupted in flames.

Metal and stone flew like shrapnel from hell.

I slammed my fists against the car window, screaming her name.

Tears blinded me.

My heart broke.

She was in there.

My Rose.

And I never got to say goodbye.

How would luca handle this lost 🥹😭
