Chapter 38 Onyi's POV
I stared at Laila, the pack doctor, trying to decipher her words and actions. Her piercing green eyes seemed to bore into my very soul, making me feel like she could see right through me. I was consumed by confusion and insecurity, unsure of what to make of her.
As she tended to me, her touch was gentle, but I couldn't shake off the feeling that there was something off about her. Her eyes seemed to gleam with a dark fascination, like she was savoring my pain and vulnerability. I felt like a specimen under a microscope, and Laila was the scientist studying me with cold, calculating interest.
I tried to push the thoughts away, telling myself that I was just being paranoid. But as I looked into her eyes, I saw something that made my skin crawl. It was a glimmer of something sinister, something that made me wonder if she was truly here to help me. I felt a shiver run down my spine as Laila's hands moved over my body. Her touch was cold and clinical, but I could sense a darkness beneath the surface.
"Why are you doing this?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady. My mind was racing with questions, and I needed answers.
Laila's smile was a thin-lipped thing, a cruel curve of her mouth. "I'm doing this because I want to help you," she said. "I want to help you see the world for what it truly is." Her words were laced with an unsettling intensity, and I couldn't help but feel like she was hiding something.
I studied her face, searching for any sign of sincerity. But her expression was a mask, a carefully crafted facade that revealed nothing. I wasn't convinced. There was something about Laila that didn't feel right, something that made me wonder if she was truly on my side.
As the minutes ticked by, I found myself growing more and more uneasy. Laila's presence was like a shadow looming over me, casting a dark and foreboding spell. I knew that I had to be careful around her, to keep my guard up until I knew more about her and her intentions.
But despite my reservations, I couldn't deny the sense of desperation that was growing inside me. I was lost and alone, reeling from the aftermath of Amanda's departure. And Laila, with her mysterious powers and unsettling intensity, was the only one who seemed to offer any kind of solution. Even if I just met her
I was trapped in a web of uncertainty, and I didn't know which way to turn. All I knew was that I had to tread carefully, to navigate the treacherous landscape of Laila's world with caution and precision. Anything less would be a recipe for disaster.
