Adrian's POV
At long last, the elevator doors slid open. I realized I'd been holding my breath, silently counting the seconds, fear crawling like claws down my throat and lodging itself there.
What if the power failed on every floor of Carter Holdings? What if my pheromones exploded out of control before I reached my office? What if Lance standing right behind me decided to expose what he'd just witnessed?
After all, we weren't allies. We were enemies. His father's disownment didn't erase a decade of animosity between us.
So the second the elevator opened, my only thought was to bolt for my office, grab more pills, then rush to the hospital. My doctor had to explain how this was possible.
Half the fear had dulled by now but the heat pooling in me remained. What I hadn't anticipated was Landon, standing right outside the doors the moment they parted.
