Lance's POV
Adrian had thrown himself into the pool for me.
The thought lingered like a shadow as I walked into Carter Holdings the next morning, each step echoing the memory of yesterday.
Just as I reached the elevator, the doors slid open and there was Landon inside.
The instant his eyes met mine, he hissed under his breath and my expression hardened to mirror his.
I stepped in anyway. Others were already in the elevator, their chatter dulling the heat between us. It wasn't like yesterday at the Crimson Moon Pack's ceremonial grounds, when he cornered me with threats—his "final warning" to stay away from Adrian. He had promised it was the last time he'd deliver the message peacefully.
But I hadn't backed down. How could I? Not after Adrian came to me of his own accord. Not after he had jumped into the pool himself to save me.
That moment gnawed at me. Why had he done it? And worse, why had I responded the way I did?
