"Lilly," she'd say, rolling her eyes. "Don't whisper like that — just say it out loud. It's not like anyone cares about your drama."
I blinked. "I wasn't—"
"Relax," she added with a laugh. "Don't be so sensitive."
At first I let it slide. Maybe she didn't mean it. But it kept happening.
One day at lunch, I was telling Jessi about something that had happened at home, something I hadn't told anyone else yet.
"So, I was saying—" I began.
"Ugh," Aisha groaned loudly, tossing her hair. "Here we go again. Attention-seeking Lilly strikes again."
Everyone laughed — even Jessi.
My stomach twisted, but I just smiled weakly and stared at my sandwich.
