"What is the intelligence division doing?"

"They can't even tell us why the target isn't here?"

Tsunayashiro Kotani spoke sharply, his face void of warmth.

Naturally cold and decisive, Kotani had no patience for incompetence—especially not in intelligence gathering. Misinformation wasn't just a nuisance; in operations like these, it was dangerous.

A simple misstep could spiral into chaos.

"Was this intel provided by you?"

Tsunayashiro Kotani cast a sidelong glance behind him.

There stood a tall woman wrapped in a tight black jacket, white shirt, and knitted white scarf. Short azure hair framed her defined features, and her slender figure projected both elegance and lethality.

She was Michibane Aura, a Fullbringer and operative under Tsunayashiro Chinan's command.

The mission tonight: to apprehend Kurosaki Kanbaru, a captain-class Quincy and rising anomaly in spiritual warfare—per the personal directive of Tsunayashiro Tokinada, heir to one of Soul Society's four great noble houses.

"Correction, Mr. Shinigami," Aura said with a teasing smile, her voice sultry but relaxed. "That information didn't come from me. It came from other humans."

Kotani sneered coldly and dropped the point, turning back to the room.

It was a modest living space—uncluttered, tidy, and not particularly revealing. A place that offered no obvious clue as to where Kurosaki Kanbaru had gone.

The mission... had just hit a wall.

"Up late?"

A curious voice suddenly whispered near his ear.

"I—wait."

Kotani stiffened.

That was a man's voice.

But the only man in the room right now was him.

His eyes widened. He whirled around.

Squatting leisurely near the open window, a young man in casual clothes offered a faint wave.

Kurosaki Kanbaru.

"You noticed the break-in and still came back?" Aura tilted her head, intrigued. "Interesting."

She grinned. Her favorite kind of people were the unpredictable ones.

She brushed a few blue strands out of her eyes and asked playfully, "So, where did you run off to?"

"Oh, that?" Kanbaru scratched his head. "My neighbor asked me to watch some special skills or something. I didn't really care about the skills—I just ended up watching legs."

Kotani: "…"

You're telling me you skipped town in the middle of the night... for thighs?

Aura let out a melodic laugh. "This Quincy is more interesting than I thought."

Kotani's expression hardened.

"No need to waste time now. You've been caught, and you know what that means."

His eyes locked with Kanbaru's.

"Come quietly—or your sister gets hurt."

"You threatening me?"

Kanbaru pointed to himself, eyes narrowing.

A stream of internal prompts scrolled through his mind.

> [Wife's scent, wife's scent... other people's wives are scented too… Eh, whatever. That guy's family rolls in with 300-jin tanks. You're not into that kind of heavy artillery anyway.]

[Wow. The guy talking to you? He's no flunky. That's a Tsunayashiro—one of the four great noble families of Soul Society.]

[This one's loyal to Tokinada—the lunatic noble who experimented on fellow Shinigami and tried to rewrite reality.]

[If you don't want to end up on Tokinada's operating table, you'd better keep your head on straight.]

"If you want to take that as a threat," Kotani said with grim resolve, "then yes. It is one."

"I don't like unnecessary bloodshed. But if you force my hand, I will use your sister, Kurosaki Masaki, as leverage."

He slowly sheathed his Zanpakutō, speaking as if the matter was already settled.

Kanbaru yawned and scratched his cheek.

"The last guy who threatened me like that?" He snorted. "They're still digging the grass off his grave."

Kotani's brows twitched.

"So, resistance it is…"

"Save your effort," he waved a hand at Aura, who looked ready to interfere. "I can handle this myself."

"Even if you're at captain level, don't get cocky."

"Among captains, there are giants—and then there are insects."

"That's the kind of gap you and I share."

He placed five fingers on the hilt of his blade.

Spiritual pressure flared.

Time to end this in one swing—

BANG!

Before the blade could even clear the sheath, Kotani was knocked flat onto the ground.

Kanbaru raised an eyebrow and stared at him.

"That's it?"

You're telling me a noble elite showed up, made speeches, and then got bodied like a garden gnome?

Kotani groaned and forced himself up, glaring at Aura, who was still giggling softly.

Her eyes sparkled with amusement.

If she hadn't been useful to Lord Tokinada…

Kotani scowled.

"That won't happen again."

He went for his Zanpakutō once more.

THUNK!

His knees buckled as a foot landed cleanly on his forehead.

Blood trickled down his brow.

"This… this can't be…"

He wiped his eyes, staring through blurred vision.

That woman—

That green-haired woman standing next to Kanbaru—

Wasn't she…?

Nelliel Tu Odelschwanck.

He recognized her immediately.

Former Espada No. 3, a Vasto Lorde-class Arrancar with a battle record that terrified even Shinigami Captains.

Though her allegiance wasn't officially declared post-Aizen, her strength had been known for years. She was no longer under Aizen's command—but she was dangerous.

"An ordinary captain-class Shinigami and an Adjuchas-class Arrancar..."

Kotani steadied his stance.

"If you think that is enough to stop me…"

"You're out of your damn mind."

He drew his Zanpakutō in a fluid motion.

"Scatter, Kurotenshou!"

Spiritual pressure surged—raw and violent.

"Let's see how you handle this."

SLASH!

He lunged forward, aiming a diagonal strike intended to split Kanbaru clean in two.

This sword technique was designed to suppress Reiatsu flow and paralyze spiritual limbs, even in captain-class foes.

But then—

A single leg swept out.

Elegant. Casual. Merciless.

CRASH!

Kotani sailed out the window, slammed through two walls, and vanished into the dark.

A long silence followed.

Kanbaru stood still, a question mark hovering above his head.

"That's it?"

The door creaked open.

Masaki Kurosaki poked her head out, rubbing sleepy eyes.

"What's all that noise? Did something explode?"

Kanbaru waved her off.

"Just some burglars. Go back to sleep."

Masaki nodded and yawned.

"Okay~"

She shut the door.

Beat.

The door burst open again.

"They're enemies, aren't they?!"

Masaki stomped out in pajamas, eyes locked on Michibane Aura.

Her gaze flicked down to Aura's chest.

And twitched.

"...Those are illegal. Definitely illegal."

Before anyone could respond, a voice echoed again.

"You're messing with me, right?!"

Kotani rose from rubble, face smeared with blood and... a shoeprint.

That green-haired woman—Nelliel—had kicked him like he was an insect.

He staggered upright, burning with rage.

Especially after overhearing Masaki and Kanbaru's exchange.

That was his line!

Now they were just mocking him.

"Mr. Shinigami," Aura asked sweetly, "do you want help now?"

"NO."

"It's just two average captain-class opponents!"

"Oh? Is that why you got knocked down—wait—three times now?"

"SHUT UP!"

Kotani's spiritual pressure flared again.

"I gave you a chance to surrender," he growled, pointing his Zanpakutō at Kanbaru. "But now, I'm going to break your limbs and drag you back."

He lunged forward—

A faint, greenish blur appeared.

WHAM.

Kotani slammed into the floor, skidding across it like a ragdoll.

"Trying to hurt Kanbaru..."

Nelliel stood over him, eyes narrow and filled with wrath.

"Unforgivable."

"Absolutely... can't forgive scum like you."
