I was back in Moonveil Academy.
Back in my room.
Back in this world.
And I hated how wrong it felt to call it home.
I had almost forgotten what the campus looked like without the looming stone walls of the underground compound. The air here was freer, cooler too, but I still couldn't stop checking over my shoulder, like those damn chains had followed me.
They hadn't. Not physically. But I felt their ghost around my wrists.
Alpha Malachi had sent us through a portal late last night, after Freya had pleaded with him. As I expected, there was no goodbye, just a low, rumbling threat wrapped in a spell. "Say a word to your family," he'd said, "and we'll find them. We'll find them all and kill them."
The portal had cracked open like a gaping maw, violet light searing my vision. I stepped through and landed hard, knees scraping against the smooth dorm floor.
Now, back in the safety of our dorm room, I dropped onto the edge of my bed and exhaled.
