Chapter 8 - Ch.8 - Basra III

Chapter Eight: Basra (Part 3)

Elyas walks with Absi and Imran toward the governor's hall, both boys visibly shocked.

Imran: Elyas, how did you know it's in Damascus?

Elyas: You really are a foolish boy.

Absi: Just tell us, at least say something!

Elyas: How old are you two?

Absi: Sixteen.

Imran: Fifteen. And my sister Nazek is my twin.

Elyas (chuckles): You're truly just kids. If my calculations are correct... I'm about 450 years old.

That revelation hits Imran and Absi like a thunderbolt — stunned speechless by Elyas' words.

---

As they enter the hall, Clan Chief Ali opens his arms in welcome.

Ali: Welcome, warrior. Are you feeling energized now?

Elyas: Let's not pretend. I won't be "on your side." Clearly, you're only keeping me here because you're alone. The rest abandoned you. The other mages left. Is this old man and the sleek archer all you have left?

Ali: You're right... But I won't surrender. Who else would stand with you? I'm your only option. No one else will ally with you — so this is a matter of shared interests. Are you with us, or not?

Elyas: So far, it seems I have no better choice. My sword is in Damascus — I felt it. What's your magical ability, oh lonely governor?

Ali: Summoning.

Elyas is visibly shocked.

Elyas: Summoning?! So you are truly powerful, old man.

Rami: Then should we start planning how to retrieve your sword? Do you know where exactly in Damascus?

Elyas: No. I can't locate it precisely from here.

---

Meanwhile…

Asma, the wife of Chief Ali, sits with Nazek.

Asma: I remember your mother well, Nazek. She was beautiful and strong. It looks like you'll be just like her. I was deeply saddened when she passed.

They continue to chat softly about their lives.

Imran enters, smiling brightly.

Imran: Come on, Nazek — it's training time!

---

Back in the council room, Chief Ali addresses Samir, Riad, Rami, and Elyas:

Ali: The three youngsters will begin training in both magic and combat — they need to learn to defend themselves. I've also made the decision to train everyone capable of wielding a weapon. We are at war.
