Chapter 27 - The Race for the Noon Bloom

"Did you find something?" Jordan asked.

"You questioning me every few seconds won't hasten the process! Will you please shut up and let me concentrate you muscle head!" Jane roared at Jordan.

Jordan went quite and started fiddling with the books.

"Any updates?" Just then Adriana entered the library as she asked Jane.

"Nothing much! I didn't find any specific location."

"I think I've got something! Do we have a map of the forest with us?" Adriana said.

"Not a map but there is something similar!" Jane picked a book from the pile and moved near Adriana.

The book was a journal of an alchemist titled 'My journey to the corruption'. She placed the book on the table and flipped a few pages and stopped on the one where a hand drawn map covered both the pages.

Adriana scanned the map and after a few seconds, she pointed at one point.

"This! What information do we have on the sword mountains?"

"This…wait a minute!" Jane moved to the shelves and picked a book from there and came near them again with the book opened in her hands.

"The sword mountains are towards the south-east in the outer zone. The whole mountain has sharp sword like stone protrusions which make it difficult to climb the mountain as the gravitational field is weird there and flight or float spells don't work." Jane explained.

"What's at the top?" Adriana asked as Jane flipped some pages again.

"No beasts are found there but there's a flatland and a cave. The center of the cave has a luminous 'Reflet tree'. It absorbs the sunlight and reflects it throughout the area acting as a light and heat source...wait a minute!!" Jane stopped as her eyes went wide in realization.

"The noon bloom is found in high places where direct sunlight falls and the environment is very hot where flame mana is abundant! I don't know about the flame mana, but the other conditions are almost similar!"

"I think we've found the location." Adriana said with a smirk. "Get ready! We'll move at the earliest!"

Both Jordan and jane nodded as all three of them moved out.

Just as they left the room. A figure in a hood and mask wearing full black clothes and a bandana on his forehead with a spiral wind symbol appeared out of thin air from the wall near where Adriana and the others were in discussion.

'That is quite the information! I have to tell leader now!' he waved his hands as mana covered his whole body and he vanished again from the spot.

"Did you do this on the chance that we were not here?" Anna confronted Danver.

"Do you think I need your permission to banish my son?"

"I told you we sisters will take care of him. he's our only brother."

"You have one more brother! Look after him!"

"He's no brother of mine! He's the son of that bitch!"

"YOU DARE!!" Danver roared as he released intense killing intent towards her.

Anna was pushed back as she crouched down to keep her ground.

"She's the duchess and your mother! Use such words one more time and you'll know the consequences of such insolence!"

Anna groaned in pain, sweat trickled down her face, unable to speak anything as the killing intent was making it difficult for her to breath.

Suddenly Danver removed his killing intent and the surrounding went normal.

Anna gasped for breath as she stood up and opened her mouth with effort.

"My mother…died…on the day…my brother was born! And you took him away from me too! Was being magicless that big of a sin!?"

"Weakness is sin! He was useless and thus weak, and would have become my weakness too."

"I regret being born to such a heartless father!"

A sigh escaped Danver. "If you have nothing else to say then leave! I have work to do."

"I'll bring him back and he'll live with us again, no matter what you say!" she clicked her tongue and turned away.

She rushed out of the door closing it with a bang as she left, without waiting for a reply.

The door opened again and Drake entered inside. He moved towards Danver and stopped at a distance and bowed.

"Cast a silence barrier Drake. I don't want the walls to hear today!"

"Yes, my lord!" Drake nodded and a magic circle spread from his feet, covering the whole room forming a thin barrier around them.

"Why didn't you tell her the truth my lord?" Drake asked.

"Sometimes knowing the truth can put you in harms way Drake. And she wouldn't have believed me anyway." Danver said. "She's not in the line of succession, so she's not Hela's target!"

"How's Luke?" he asked.

"He has joined the adventurer's guild and is faring well. I believe he has started to use magic now!" Drake said with a smile.

"So, he didn't lie then!" a smile spread on Danver's face. "Put some guards on the lookout! If this news reaches Hela, she might try to do something!" he said with worry visible on his face.

Drake nodded. Suddenly his face got serious and with a grave tone he started speaking.

"The Gandolf family is making moves again. I think they'll be putting pressure on you for announcing young master Leo the heir soon!"

"It's Hela who's getting impatient and pressuring her family. They want to annex my dukedom and use Leo as the puppet!"

"They may try to put assassins on you too my lord! I have to increase the security!"

"Don't do anything Drake! If we make any movements, they'll realize that we know about their plans! I sent Luke away so that he's not involved in this scheme!" Danver sighed.

"Keep Anna and Layla away with the missions too! They should remain unaware of the plan! And try to contact Duke Argon in secret! If the Gandolf get his support, it will be over for us!"

"Yes, my lord!" Drake bowed and left the room.

Danver sighed in helplessness. He opened the drawer and pulled out a round metal plate with a sigil of a wolf's head on a cross.

'I hope I would never have to use this!'
