After Argent left James's office, James walked inside with a smile on his face.
"So? How was it?" James asked, sounding like someone who was excited to hear some gossip.
"I have an agent?" Tyler asked.
James blinked a few times. "Yes, you have an agent. Everyone playing in this academy has an agent. We have an agency. It was clearly stated in the contract you signed when you joined the academy. Did you not read the contract?"
Tyler rubbed his nose awkwardly when he heard James's response. The contract was too long and he was too broke to get a lawyer to proofread it. He then had the idea of asking his system to help him proofread it, and to his surprise his system responded moments later, telling him that there was no negative clause in the contract so he signed it.
"Well... That's not important." Tyler answered. "I'd like to meet with my agent so that I can discuss the contract terms with him."
"That's no problem," James said. "I'll send word out to the club and you can meet later this evening."
Tyler nodded and muttered words of thanks before rushing out of the office. He was feeling slightly embarrassed for every second he spent there.
After leaving the office, he went to his room and did some research about Monaco's academy and their under-eighteens. After an hour or so, he was convinced that joining them would be the right choice. His system had even chimed in a couple of times, reassuring him of his decision.
A couple of hours later, Tyler found himself inside the academy's cafeteria, sitting across the table from who he was convinced was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.
She looked young, about five years older than him at most and was professionally dressed, wearing a black blazer and a pink shirt inside. She had a smile on her face as she faced her client.
"Hello Mr Wilson, my name is Janai and I am your agent," Janai said with a smile. "I've been contacted by AS Monaco and they've submitted an offer. I won't go too much into it but here's the basics. They're not offering you a contract as a youth player, but instead as a first team player on a six year contract so you'll get a base salary of £6,500 per week without tax and other bills. You'll get a signing on fee of £50,000 and..."
Janai spent quite a long time explaining the important part of the contract to Tyler. He learnt that the contract also had a release clause of five million euros which increased progressively until it reached an astonishing one hundred and fifty million euros at the end of the sixth year.
There were a few other complex clauses that Tyler couldn't remember, but he ran it with his system and after getting its go ahead, Tyler decided that he was going to accept the offer and sign with Monaco. The fact that they were signing him to their first team and not their reserve showed how much faith they had in him and he wasn't going to let them down.
After he finished his meeting with Janai, Tyler left the cafeteria and started looking for Jason. To Tyler's surprise, he found Jason inside the training room, and from how sweaty and tired he looked, it seemed like he had been there for quite a while.
"Tyler," Jason said as soon as Tyler entered, while panting, before letting himself drop to the ground. "I figured you'd be the only one who'd come here today."
"I was actually looking for you," Tyler said, walking over to where Jason was and sitting beside him.
Jason sighed. "I heard a Monaco representative came over to see you today," Jason said. "Looks like you're gonna be leaving soon."
Tyler nodded. "Yeah."
"I guess we're both leaving then. Coach told me that Blackburn and Middlesbrough have asked about me. They're not as big a club as Monaco but they're decent places to start my career."
Tyler smiled and patted his friend on the shoulder. "That's good news."
He was happy for his friend. Even though he didn't like the fact that they had to separate from each other, he knew that it was necessary. And now he felt a lot better now that he knew that his friend also got a good move away.
"Yeah," Jason sighed. "Crazy to think that that final was the last match we'll play together."
Tyler smiled. "Never say never though. You never know what'll happen in this crazy world of football."
Jason laughed. "Yeah, right. What are the odds of us playing in the same team?"
"I don't know," Tyler said.
And like that the rest of the day passed. Tyler talked with Jason for a while before going back to his room. He stared at Lenny's side of the room for quite a while before crashing on his bed. He called his grandma and explained to her what happened with the tournament and how he was on the verge of a big move, and then he fell asleep.
