"What!" Lily exclaimed, her tone full of mock outrage. "Restrictions even during the night?" she cried, sounding so adorably offended that Elara couldn't help but laugh under her breath.
Her wolf's voice carried a brightness, an innocence that tugged at her heart, a voice that still marveled at the simplest things, as though every rule was a new adventure to test.
Lily's reaction made Elara feel an ache of guilt in her chest. Of course Lily would be restless. It was her very first day in this world , the first day her spirit had merged fully into this form and instead of roaming under the open sky, she was stuck listening to Elara's endless list of cautions and restrictions. It felt cruel.
"I'm sorry, Lily," Elara said softly, her voice nearly a whisper as she set down the watering pot beside her feet. Her gaze dropped to the moist soil, glistening faintly under the sunlight. "Because of me, you can't even go on a proper run."
