Chapter 12: Yuta Togashi
To be honest, Yoshikage Kira didn't quite agree with U.A. High's philosophy of pouring all its resources into the Hero Course. While it was certainly important to nurture this small group of students into Pro Heroes, could the vast majority of other students simply be ignored and treated as a backdrop for the heroes?
This educational philosophy was warped, much like the high schools in his previous life that focused only on the honors classes while letting the students in the regular classes drift aimlessly.
But what could be done? This was a world of heroes, a world that needed more heroes. Everyone would agree that this philosophy was correct, because heroes were the center of attention, the goal that everyone strived for.
The meeting concluded.
The other class presidents got up and left one by one. Just as Momo was about to leave, the Secretary called out to her.
"Yaoyorozu-san, could you wait a moment? There's something I'd like to talk to you about."
Momo and Kira exchanged a glance. Seeing the clear "stay" signal in Kira's eyes, she nodded and sat back down.
After everyone else had left, Erina opened the notebook in her hands and said flatly, "Momo Yaoyorozu. Admitted through recommendations. Quirk: Creation. Highly intelligent, requires a vast store of knowledge to support her Quirk. Am I correct?"
The moment she heard her Quirk described, Momo realized that the little act she and Kira had put on must have seemed completely ridiculous to this girl. If she had just revealed Momo's Quirk from the start, the other class presidents would never have been so intimidated or made any concessions.
"What you mean is..."
"Don't misunderstand. I just wanted to say that your performance earlier was quite brilliant," Erina Nakiri said with a smile. "Was there any problem with the task assignments I made?"
"There were no problems at all. It's what we should be doing, and we will cooperate fully," Momo said with a sincere nod. The way this girl had managed to distribute the tasks to everyone's relative satisfaction had genuinely impressed her. She was beginning to question whether Kira's whole strategy had been necessary.
Seeing the trust and even a hint of respect in Momo's eyes, Erina Nakiri smiled to herself. Just a little girl, she thought. As long as you accomplish something she acknowledges, she's easy to win over.
"You're sure you have no problems? Because I feel a little bad about it..." Erina stood up and bowed to Momo, her voice filled with sincerity. "In previous Sports Festivals, the Hero Course was never required to help with the preparations. They spent all their time training. But I believe the students in the other courses lack the necessary strength and need your help... I am truly sorry for making you work this time."
What Erina said was the truth. In the past, the Hero Course only ever participated as competitors, and their year was supposed to be no exception. But after she was elected Secretary in the Student Council elections two months ago, everything had changed.
Momo was touched. She never expected Erina to be so forthcoming with the truth. The resentment that Kira's words had planted in her heart completely vanished. She said righteously, "This is the Hero Course's stage! It would be completely unreasonable for us not to participate in helping out! Senpai, you don't need to blame yourself. We're doing this voluntarily!"
Ah, she finally said it. Erina pressed the button on the recording pen in her pocket, pausing the recording. As long as she had that statement, even if the Student Council President was unhappy, even if it got escalated to the school's upper management, she wouldn't face any punishment.
"It's so wonderful to have a kouhai like you!" Erina walked over to Momo, took her hand, and sat down beside her. Her eyes sparkled like stars, and she adopted the adoring expression of a young girl. "Yaoyorozu-san, you have such an amazing figure! I was stunned the moment you walked in. I'm dying to know how you grew to be so... developed!"
"Senpai, you have a wonderful figure as well..."
Erina's body was curvaceous and well-proportioned, her purple eyes exceptionally captivating. Her figure was in no way inferior to Momo's; in fact, she was even a little sexier...
Looks like there are no more problems. Seeing the two of them instantly become like best friends, engaged in enthusiastic conversation, Yoshikage Kira silently made his way toward the door. Staying here would just be awkward...
Yoshikage Kira... have you forgotten what you said just a moment ago? "I will not leave my lady alone here." Doesn't this action of yours mean you've already let your guard down around me? If that Ueno hadn't directly revealed my intelligence gathering, we could have met in a much better way...
"Actually, my Quirk uses a lot of lipids, so I need to eat a lot of food to maintain this figure..." Momo said shyly.
"Eating high-calorie foods all the time isn't good, you know. Even if you can't see it on the surface, your body will get soft over time. It just so happens that I'm an excellent cook. Let me help you plan a healthy diet!" Erina patted Momo's firm little stomach and said with a wicked smile, "I'll make sure you give birth to a cute and healthy baby!"
Momo was mortified. "Senpai!"
Yoshikage Kira closed the door to the meeting room, shutting Momo's shriek inside. He turned and sighed.
Honestly, he had been a little too paranoid. Erina Nakiri knew about Momo's Quirk, which meant she must have looked at the Student Council files. There was no reason she wouldn't know about his own. She was probably just curious about him, the top-ranked entrant, which is why she commissioned two little girls to spy on him. If she really wanted to make a move against him, she would have hired professionals, not two kids like Ueno and Komachi who would start wailing the moment they were caught.
The Student Council building was a separate, two-story structure located in a small grove behind the General Studies building. The environment was quiet and serene, and few people ever came here. A few small paths led out, and the lush trees that provided cover made it look like a perfect spot for a love confession.
Just as Kira descended the steps of the Student Council building, he saw a boy pacing back and forth along a small path, muttering something to himself.
When the boy saw Kira emerge from the building, he rushed over anxiously. "Excuse me, have you seen the Student Council Secretary?"
"You mean Nakiri-senpai? She's still working," Kira said, then paused. "Is there something you need? She might not be out for a little while."
The boy was wearing a second-year uniform. He had chestnut-brown hair that was long enough to cover one eye. Even the anxiety on his face couldn't hide his handsome features.
"Is that so... Is she avoiding me, or does she really have no interest in me...?" the boy muttered to himself. He then looked up at Kira and smiled. "Ah, sorry, I haven't introduced myself. I'm a second-year from Hero Course Class A, Yuta Togashi. And you are...?"
Kira couldn't help but laugh. So he had run into his direct upperclassman...
"First-year, Hero Course Class A. Yoshikage Kira."
