Chapter 2 - First Words, First Fire

Simran's POV

The canteen was loud. Again.

Too many people laughing at jokes that weren't funny.

Too many guys "accidentally" brushing against you just to say "sorry" with a wink.

I hated it here already.

Until I saw him — leaning against the water cooler, surrounded by the same three boys from orientation.

Same stupid energy.

But him?

He was worse.

Because when I locked eyes with him this time…

He smiled.

Like I'd already said yes to something I hadn't even been asked yet.

I turned to leave.

No way was I feeding that ego.

"Hey, sunshine," he called out.

I paused.

Turned my head, slow.

He walked right up, drink in hand, devil in his eyes.

"Saw you at orientation. Thought you were a mirage."he said in a charming manner

"I thought you were a headache," I replied flatly.

He whistled low.

Hands up in surrender."Shit. You're gonna ruin me."

I smirked. Just a little."You'd ruin yourself without my help."And I walked away.But yeah…

I was smiling by the time I reached my table.

Junaid's POV

She heard me.She always heard me.

Even with earphones in, even when she pretended she didn't.

I could tell by the way her shoulders stiffened.

And when I called her "sunshine"?

Oh, that glare?Delicious.

"I thought you were a headache," she said.

I swear my heart hiccupped.

I hadn't smiled that wide in a year.

Sameer behind me muttered, "She's gonna destroy you, bro."

"I'll enjoy every second of it," I said without blinking.

There was something about her —

The way she spoke like she was untouchable, the way she walked like the world was too slow for her.

She wasn't here to flirt back.

Which is exactly why I wanted her to.

She didn't fall into my orbit.

She made me spin around hers.

She was truly different.
