Her arms are crossed over her middle. Gone were the act she played so well in front of the others. For once, she actually looks vulnerable but it does nothing to stir me.
I crossed my arms, leaning against the wall, my back by the door. I won't step any further than this. Not with my Rosie in such close proximity to that bastard Angelo. And seeing as he hasn't been here in so long, I don't trust him to keep an eye on those two women, who looked like they're seconds away from starting trouble.
"How is he?" she asked, fingers fidgeting. Laurent.
She's the reason Laurent and his family lost everything. The one who taught him how to gamble, drained his family fortune, then had the audacity to get pregnant with his child out of wedlock.
It was a blessing he made it out of the kingdom without her.
"Better," I bit out, refusing to say more. I don't think I could, either. His death is so fresh in my mind, I still haven't truly accepted it.
