Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

Fuck, I'm coming.

I'm coming, oh god!

Head down, my hips move on their own accord as I ride out my pleasure, radiating from my core. I lean my head back as it started to get too much, only to yelp when the harsh glare of sunlight burns my skin. Still, I rock my hips, up and down on something hard, releasing that pressure in my core.

Am I humping on a rock?

Wait.

I looked down, and immediately sprang off his lap.

I stumble to the side, wincing when my knees hit the rocky surface of the cave as he laughed, that low, sexy rumble of his voice echoing throughout the tiny cave.

I shot him a glare before drifting my eyes down, sagging with relief when my pants are on, buttoned and zipped. Everything's on, even my tank top. It's probably just a dream, despite my core still practically purring with pleasure.

"If I didn't know any better, I'd say you're trying to trick me into sleeping with you again," I snapped, getting up and moving back to my spot on the other side, careful to avoid the sun rays escaping through the hole above.

"Me?" he scoffed, incredulous. "You're the one who jumped on my lap while I was peacefully asleep. If anyone's playing tricks here, it'd be you."

I crossed my arms, sitting in my corner and turned away, scowling.

"I can't believe this," I heard him mutter under his breath, annoyed.

The waterfall still crashes between us, though not as violently as the night before. Now that the rain has truly long and passed and the sun's up, drying the place.

"Are you okay?" he asked, his voice softer now, edged with concern.

I hate it when he's like this. Cruel one moment, kind the next. It's confusing.

"I'm fine," I replied, exhaling sharply.

A beat. Then, "I'm sorry."

I hesitate, then add, "Is there a way...I mean, when does this stop? The lust after the feeding?"

He pauses. "It varies from person to person. The stronger your sire, the more intense the feeling tends to be. So what you're feeling right now...it's normal. Especially since you've only fed twice since you've turned."

I drop my head back against the wall, watching the sun shining through the opening of the cave above, where water flows down along with the rays.

"Why did you turn me?" I asked.

"That's the wrong question," he said, not unkindly.

"I don't think so," I replied, my voice quiet and hollow with the weight of it., mourning the fact that I'll never feel the warmth of the sun again. "I want to know that, more than I want to know who you even are."

"Why's that?"

"Because I need to understand why you chose me, when you could've chosen anyone," I said.

His head's resting back against the wall, eyes closed as if he's trying to fall back asleep.

"You could've picked someone with actual power to help you out. So...why me?"

"You were the first person who showed me that not all humans are monsters," he said quietly, catching me off guard. I didn't think he would answer.

"Why did you do it?" he asked.

"Do what?"

"Help me," he said, eyes fixed on the waterfall, his irises a deep blue, like the river. "I was sent here to die anyway."

The way he said it...he sounds like a prisoner asking for penance.

"Vampire or not, what they did to you was inhumane."

He looked at me, his expression unreadable. "You're a scientist, isn't that supposed to be a part of your job?"

"I study vampire blood," I said. "Torture wasn't part of it. All I needed were small samples. They didn't have to hurt you for that."

His lips twisted into a wry smile, eyes cast downwards like he's hiding it.

"You're still too good for this world," he said softly.

"But I'm really powerful, Rosie," he warned, his voice hardening as he met my gaze with red irises. He always seemed to have red eyes when he's around me. Red. Bloodlust. Was he affected by the blood, too, because he is my sire?

"The lust you're feeling after every feeding...you're going to feel it for a very long time to come."

"Then I'll just feed less," I said, defiant.

"Rosie," he murmured, low and warning and sexy, "you're a newborn. Good luck with that."

"Then I'll just find someone else to satisfy my needs."

Silence.

I didn't look at him. I didn't dare to, the coward that I am. But I felt his gaze, heavy and burning like he's trying to peel the skin from my throat.

I made a show of staring at my nails instead, the middle of it all sharpened to glassy points. I am hungry again. Ravenous. I can already feel it curling low in my belly, hot and aching.

Then his voice came back, dark and dry.

"Good luck doing that without killing the person you're fucking."

I parted my lips to fire off a snarky remark, only to freeze.

My blood ran cold. Chest tightened.

Then I was moving, shoving my backpack over my shoulders, already halfway to my feet.

Footsteps. Not one, but many and too close. Judging by how loud they're getting by the second.

Ravić rushed up to me, his backpack slung over his shoulders. Without a word, he pressed my back against the wall where it's dark enough to hide us from them, eyes scanning the shadows for a place to hide. His face falls when he sees my expression.

We're trapped.

"How hungry are you?" he whispered.

He must've seen how red my eyes have gotten. I'm practically trembling with hunger. He's not seriously suggesting...

"No."

My spot is dark enough to hide us for awhile. It would buy us some time but how long? Judging by how heavy and how many their steps are, they're practically bringing the whole team of hunters. We're fucked.

"It's the only way," he bit out harshly, "unless you want to die here, or worse, tortured, then be my guest."

He's seriously not suggesting drinking them dry?

Their footsteps grew even louder. I can hear their voices now, telling their team members to descend from above, while the others through the entrance.

I turned back to Ravić, eyes widened with panic.

His eyes had glowed into a deep shade of red, his fangs descend. Ready. I guess it's too late now to ask for that last bag of blood in his backpack.

"You're hungry, Rosie," he said, his voice different, sharper, like the nail tipping my chin.

"What better way to feast, than from the source themselves?"

I imagined their blood, warm and rich, flowing down my throat. This hunger is gnawing at my insides, and I'll have more than a single blood bag, now.

Beautiful.

Their pulses, all so hypnotizing as it throb through their veins, thrumming fast and uneven. Laced with fear, sweetened by adrenaline. Nothing would taste better than the sharp rush of that adrenaline, making their bloods richer, melodic, and undeniably bloodier. Like sinking your teeth into a fine cut of meat.

They didn't know how powerful I can be when I'm hungry.

"There it is, my beautiful Rosie Posie," he gushed, his accent thick.

I smiled, letting my fangs gleam in the darkness.

Heat flares in his eyes, hunger mixing with something darker as I leaned in, pressing my lips to his. Our sharp edges met with a clash, but I don't care. We kiss like lovers caught in a desperate farewell. Wild, urgent and full of forbidden desire.

He pulls away the moment he sensed them entering our cave. I can see them carefully approaching from the dark, dressed in their black uniforms, carrying guns loaded with wooden bullets.

I lick my lips, already dry from imagining how their blood will taste.

He shrugs off my bag, tossing it quietly on the ground and hiding it in the cover of darkness before pushing me harder against the rock.

He keeps his hold on my jaw, his body tight against mine like he's holding me back. Like I'm the monster he's waiting to unleash.

"Stay in the light!" one of the shoulders shouted, his veins already popping in his neck. "Don't go into the shadows!"

"Be careful of the sun," he whispered against my lips.

I nod, watching the other team slowly making their descend from the waterfall through a rope. Like fallen angels.

"Let your hunger take over you," he murmured lovingly against my ear, "trust your instincts."

The sweat on their skin. The way they're assessing the area, standing in the middle where the sunlight shines. Scared.

"Ready?" he asked, lips spreading into that handsome, sexy grin of his, drool dripping down his lips.

"Ready," I grinned back.
