Chapter 2 - 2

Today I accompanied Sylvia out, mainly for her audition at a film and television company.

Originally, Ethan Qi wanted to go with her since he was worried she might get scammed. But as a nationally renowned lawyer, he had a court case today and delegated the task to me.

The original Ivy Liu would've agreed immediately—ignoring her own critical job interview—just because Ethan asked.

But as a veteran corporate drone, I know better.

So after transmigrating, my first move was to call the company's HR, feigned illness, and rescheduled my interview.

Before leaving, Ethan nagged repeatedly:

"Take good care of Sylvia. Don't let her suffer any injustice."

My teeth ached from the cringe. I waved him off:

"Yeah, yeah, got it. Now go—try not to lose that lawsuit, okay?"

Ethan's face darkened: "Are you looking down on me?"

I smiled benignly: "Not at all! Just a friendly reminder... like yours just now."

He stormed off, fuming.

I turned to Sylvia: "Taxi or subway?"

She hesitated: "...Taxi. I'm afraid we'll be late..."

I raised an eyebrow: "Would that be so bad? You never wanted to audition anyway."

Sylvia bit her lip, eyes misty: "Xiao Yi... I didn't, but Brother Jay asked me to try..."

This "Brother Jay" was Jay Zhao—the novel's second male lead. He'd secretly loved Sylvia since high school (though never confessed). Now a top idol with millions of fans, he still pined for her, hoping they'd costar, fall in love on set, and live happily ever after.

Low IQ, high aspirations.

Honestly, the most annoying thing about Sylvia was how she'd choose to do things—like this audition—yet blame others for "forcing" her, forever playing the innocent victim.

"Relax," I suggested cheerfully. "Just go in and bomb the audition. Zero effort = zero chance they'll pick you."

Sylvia shook her head with baffling determination:

"No. Xiao Yi, even if this isn't my chosen path, since I promised Brother Jay I'd try... I must give my absolute best. I won't half-heart it!"

I: "..."
