KIERAN'S POV
My shoulder still burned from where Sera had brushed past me.
The contact had been brief but packed with enough tension that it sparked like a live wire. I stared at the exit long after she and Lucian had disappeared, a prickly, electric sensation simmering beneath my skin—anger, disbelief. Something else I wasn't ready to name.
A quiet sigh broke my trance. "She must be so lonely…"
I turned to Celeste, who was watching me with a hesitant look. "I don't mean to judge…" she bit her lower lip. "It's just… the divorce is so fresh, Daniel just left… and her resentment towards me…"
"Don't say that, Celeste," I cut in, my thumb stroking her cheek. "The divorce was my decision. It's not about you."
She leaned her head against my hand, her eyes shimmering. "But… she was your wife for ten years. You share a son… Maybe I shouldn't have come back…" She looked down, her hair falling to hide her face, perhaps to hide her sorrow.
